Hello-first motorcycle - 83 Honda CBX 550F

Post by Dug422 »

Good day everybody. Hoping people can help me get through my restoration of my 1983 Honda CBX 550F. It has not run for 25 years, it is not seized, only 9000 km and in relatively nice shape.

Things that I'll be working on our front fork seals, brake calipers and pads, carburetors, exhaust manifold/ mufflers and tires.

And if someone could give me information about how to post some pictures, I'd like to do that.

I think I figured something out fairly easy about doing pictures.

Thank you in advance

David

Heya David,

Start a thread for your project in the "Project Threads" area and dig in. I'll help! First free advice: There is a metric ton of great content here already. Master the use of the search feature, search and read a few threads before you post, and your questions (and our answers) will be that much better. And don't even pickup a wrench till you have the factory service manual AND parts diagrams in hand. That's step 1.

We are primarily a CBX 6cyl group here (1979 to 1982)
BUT, we have a lot of very knowledgeable members who are willing to help with advice and answer questions. If you post a question but get no reply, it's not because we are ignoring you, we don't know or we are lying next to our own project weeping uncontrolably. (that maybe just me)
Plus we have some non-bike related threads that our more entertaining members post things to.
So as Nils stated
First step to restoration is the correct factory service manual.
I'll add,
Second, Patience, don't be in a hurry.
Third, the proper tools ( vice grips, or adjustables :naughty: )
Fourth, If something is frustrating you, step back and re-read step two.
Good luck with the build and remember, you started this because you thought it would be fun,

That is a great looking bike that can only get better. Speaking of tools, get a set of JIS screwdrivers before you bungle something with a Phillips head!
