Hi everyone I'm new to the site! I grew up riding around with my dad on his 1979 honda cbx 1000. I remember getting picked up in preschool on that bike and putting on a helmet that was way to big for me but I loved it. It was a rare occasion to get to ride on that cbx. I remember it always had a starting issue I think it was the start switch, my dad always used a screw driver on the solenoid to get it started, (not the best thing but it worked for a low budget family) I don't think he ever got it fixed. So here I am about 20 years later single finished school and a lil extra money thinking back to those days wishing I could ride that bike so I decided to get it running then eventually restore it. I did try to restore it about 5 years ago but then a family friend had fatal bike accident and so my parents thought no you cant ride it. But now years later and older myself its ok to go for it, my dad seems excited. The bike was running when parked in 2003 it was indoors for about 5 years then outside covered for about another 5 then uncovered and rotting away since. So now it needs an all new wiring harness, a carb kit and who knows what else just to get that spark again. I joined to get all the info I can on my dads 1979 cbx 1000. Already looked through the forum and found some helpful info. I will be posting a project thread with pictures and more info on the bike to see where everyone thinks I should start.
I know ill use this site alot,
Tyler

Welcome Tyler! It's an admirable thing that you're doing. By the sounds of it though, it may be in somewhat rough shape. I'm sure it can be restored, but be prepared for a lot of work and a lot of frustration. Another member here is doing much the same thing with an '82 for his dad. Some photos would be great. We'd be happy to get you started off on the right foot!
