Hello ...
Hello from a cold wintery New Zealand. Having wanted a CBX since I first saw one in 1979 my dream is about to get real. A fortunate series of events has enabled me to finally get my hands on a 1980 silver CBX1000. I can't wait ... Friday is the day and I'm not quite sure what I'm in for ... nervous as hell and hoping I don't wreck it! Have ridden a variety of bikes from VFR1200, VFR800, CB600F hornet, 2012 CBR250R, 2011 CB500F (my current bike). Also ridden Harley 72, 1200C and a BMW 1200. Will put some pictures up when I get her. Joined this forum in the hope of some owner advice on things to look for and thoughts on upgrading things like brakes & suspension. First though bike needs work s no.1 & 6 carbs don't work well at idle ... any way hi again ... look forward to any advice

Welcome aboard, rheboi.
As you can tell from a quick search around the site there is a ton of advice on getting carbs sorted.

Thanks for the warm welcome.... I don't usually get much time on the internet but have to admit most of that time is on facebook or local news sites. Haven't belonged to a forum since 2007 and that was a Formula 1 group. Really looking forward to getting the CBX only a couple of days to go now.....

Re: Hello ...
Picked up the CBX today ... good 2 hour ride to where bike was on back of wifes Hornet... damn what an awful pillion seat! Anyways handed over the bank cheque and rode her to the Honda shop as it's a bit sick... not running on all 6 all of the time... Carbs need attention. Switch gear is definately 35 years old, Honda dealer says bike is damn near original condition aside from Koni rear shocks, not sure what type they are but are adjustable but rust on the top of the shaft....
Front brakes? What front brakes, totally surprised by power of rear brake though so got through trip safely even if she cut out 4 times and was surging like crazy! Apparantly carbs will be soaked in some evil solution for a week or more and rebuilt. Would like to replace the switch gear as it's sloppy and close to falling apart, clocks are faded orange, wondering if I should get some new/rebuilt ones or get mine "refreshed".
Apart from the surging it was an awesome ride, the sound was amazing and given all the stuff I read about fork flex, and being a poor handling bike I don't agree... The grin on my face will have to be surgically removed!!!!

Re: Hello ...
Congrats, it looks like a nice bike.
So true on the ability of a CBX to provide grins even when not in top condition.

Re: Hello ...
Good looking bike, rheboi! You are in luck that your local Honda dealer still works on a CBX. Hope they know what they are doing!
Besides the shocks, the chrome mirrors are not original either.
Replacing instruments and switch gear with new ones will be difficult and if possible, rather expensive.
Although someone reproduces the U.S.-style switches, the "rest-of-the-world" ones or what we call "Sport Kit" switches in the U.S. are NLA and you have to either modify parts from a different model or try to find good used ones.
Keep us posted on the progress!

Re: Hello ...
Having ridden the bike for the first time I'm quite happy with how she handled ... I'm never going to race it or ride like i just stole it so the thought of upgrades have less appeal than before when i was told it would be awful ... i love it ... if i change anything it'll be like for like if i can ... she's still in garage ... Can't wait to ride her with the carbs operating on all 6

Re: Hello ...

Bike looks good and she'll get better as you sort the various little issues out. If you ride smoothly, the flex is not too much of an issue but handling can get interesting in high speed corners if you hit a bump
