new member and recent new owner also

Post by tonyubsdell »

good afternoon from germany,

just a few words to say "hello" and introduce myself.
i am 52 years old, grew up with japanese big bikes and started my two wheel career with a 550 gpz, later followed by a z1000 ...many more to follow.
the cbx 100 was a dream bike then, and with the years i grew on the bikes of my youth.
as a saying goes: "one is never too old to learn - or do - something stupid", i am sort of collecting bikes in a modest way .
a neighbour finally sold me his '79 cbx he has owned for over 30 years. (he couldn't resist my charming way  )
the ol' lady has some 68.000 km on the clock, sports a fairing ( ugly as hell...beauty lies in the eye of the beholder... with an eagle airbrushed below the double headlights, plus another cast eagle screwed onto the front mudguard.
the twin krauser side cases and the top case together with the fitting rails will go first: i want to get her back in shape as she was born: naked.
give me some time and if i am allowed as a newcomer on this site i will post a couple of pictures.

best regards from the german outback

Hello Wolfram, welcome to the ICOA forum :text-welcomewave: There are a few Germans here - including myself (although I am an expatriate for more than a quarter century).
Keep us posted, best with some pictures, of the progress with your '79
A little tip: The Krauser sidecases with the mounting brackets are somewhat sought-after here in the U.S.! You may not want to throw them in the trash!

Know what you mean about the CBX being a dream bike. Saw my first one at 17. First bike I ever had interest in and got me kickstarted into motorcycling. 15 years later, was able to get one!

Ditto for the fairing. While market is small for vintage fairings, there are people who pay a premium for authentic vintage fairings to complete or accent their vintage projects. My first bike, I bought off a guy who bought the bike JUST to get the fairing.

thank you for the warm welcome,

specially ems, rj cb650, steve murdoch, z grand.

good to get the first piece of information, as i plan to sell the fairing, krauser cases together with the fixing struts and the engine protection bars.
on a later date i will try and post pictures.
the left over cast eagle i unscrewed from the front mudguard will have to go back to the previous owner - i guess he will stick it on to the bonnet of his volkswagen ;-)

in the mean time i used the search function for a hopefully minor engine starting problem and found some very good hints- i will hang on untill i find something helpful.

best regards from the german outback
