New owner from Spain

Post by Pistonman »

Hi to all:

Finally I bought a 78 CBX, I was been CBX owner in the 90´s, and I come back to enjoy this awesome motorcycle.
Bike is in good conditions, but needs some minor cosmetic work, and needs a carburetor balance, bike have the typical clutch noise, I will work with the carbs and after check the cluth, may be all the noise came from the carb balance...

Welcome to the site, Pistonman.
What's a little clutch rattle between friends?
Even with 85,000kms, the original clutch on my '79 worked perfectly so the racket never bothered me.
Nice looking CBX.

Hi, thanks folks !!!!

Yes, no too bad problems, normal things for a 35 year old lady, I´ll try to make this little things step by step. Now I wish to ride it a little bit to know her, and I have some parts ordered.
I think that will be good idea send the carbs to http://www.cbxcarbs.com/ to restore, carbs are very important.

You'll find no one better than Mike to do your carbs - you won't regret it.

Don't know if you are interested but TimsCBX sometimes has trim kits available for the seat.
imho, an excellent reproduction.

I read about Mike some post, and looks a good choice to make the work, I saw another too, http://www.oldschoolcarbs.com/, looks a good option too, but I read in the web that he needs 3 months to rebuild the carbs, they have a lot of work, they say...

I will see another CBX for sale close to my house this weekend, and this bike needs restore the carbs too, may be I send 2 to restore ! :o

I ordered some parts, original black mirrors, Left and Right levers (are decolored), gas cap (is broken), new tires set, tail light lens ... and I have this seat trims on my bucket list, and more things... a new exhaust should be good, the headers lost the chrome shine, and the pipes have some scratches... and many ugly bolts...

Gon, there are three guys I'd trust to rebuild my CBX' carbs, and one of them posted in this thread complimenting the other. The club's Technical Director is Dave McMunn, aka daves79x, and he has done many sets and is extremely well regarded. He does not advertise, word of mouth only, and so here's my mouth giving you the word - he will not often pipe up and nominate himself - he is far too classy for that. (you can stop blushing now Dave)

The other is Mike Nixon, who you already found, he is also excellent, and he did mine. As you learned he literally 'wrote the book'. The third is another infrequent visitor here named J.R. Luksik, aka CBXtras. If you stick with one of those three I believe you will get an excellent result and they are all stand-up guys that you can trust.
