cbx's & sending parts to Canada

Post by beedub »

Hello all,

I saw Sensei Irimajiri's letter on ICOA, and he states that the 1980 was made in Marysville, Ohio. Wow. this could mean that any 1980 honda part not marked as made in Japan can be imported to Canada duty free as a free trade item.

I have had a $5.00 light bulb from Texas turn into a $30 one with duty. taxes, and the infamous UPS "brokerage fee".

Useful info to anyone sending parts to Canada:

Send it US mail if possible to avoid this "brokerage fee". the P.O. may charge $5.00 handling but that's minimal.

State the lowest possible cost, or send it to your friend as a sample or gift.

We have to pay here in Ontario two sales taxes!! the provincial and the federal which total 15 - that's fifteen - %.

so, worst case, a $100US item sent ups - $24 shipping say, 15% tax, 6.1 % duty,$25 brokerage fee would be $131 cdn +30.00 ship + $20 tax +10.00duty + $25 brokerage = an amazing $216 cdn or $164 USd.

So if the part can be identified as "1980 cbx", the 6.1 % duty does not apply, and the mail is better than UPS/ courier.

just a thought.

All very good points Brian. I have been going through this for years now.

If I win anything on E-BAY I always try to have the seller send by regular post. Sometimes it doesn`t cost anything but if it does, it is always a lot less than UPS.

Paint and other so called "hazardous materials" have to come by courier.

They are not allowed to ship by regular mail.

Use mail not UPS to canada -UPS invoice attached

Post by beedub »

Use the U.S. mail, not UPS, to ship to Canada. I refused this shipment which had a value of $100 for parts. UPS then lost track of the package and it took three weeks to have it returned. Check this out on the bill UPS wanted me to pay:Image

Wild, Huh? UPS by ground does this; I was told UPS air for a small package is $5 more but doesn't charge the brokerage fee.
