Check out this deal. Broken off idle mixture screw tip. Then notice the tool marks on the throttle plate and carb casting. A client of mine who had his bike "serviced" by a shop. Sigh....

Unfortunately, carbs are becoming a rare item on motorcycles and so will the people who know how to work on them. With the turnover of mechanics at dealerships and the refusal of shops to work on anyhting older than 10 years, another four or five years and none of the guys wrenching has ever seen a bike with carbs on it.

Re: some people need their tools taken away.....
I think that's true already. I had a customer several years ago who, a young guy with a new mechanical engineering degree and the owner of a "cool oldschool" CB750 SOHC, said to me after I did his carbs, "Man, I understand fuel injection, but carburetors? Too mysterious.". True story. . More to the point of this picture, my client took his bike to a shop known for being familiar with CBXs and they not only banged uo the carb, broke other parts, and broke off this mixture screw, but the tool marks on the throttle plate and carb casting suggest that they also removed the carbs, had a look, and put them back on. My client tells me they gave him the bike back, saying"we can't fix it.". Indeed.
