I recently lost the needle bearing on the countershaft of my '82 Pro Link bike. Two questions; the cup plug that sealed the end of the countershaft, which I found in the sump, has an eighth inch hole in the center, is this supposed to be there? I have two other transmissions which don't.
Second question. Can the case be repaired where the spun bearing chewed it up? I don't relish swapping the components to another case.

Any idea as to why it failed? Fairly large bearing so wondering if oil circulation issue may need to be investigated. The rubber cap has an 8 inch hole? If its the same cap I'm familer with it should only have about 1.5-2 inches radius. Could you post some pictures?
As for repairing the case, not something I'd attempt unless done by a machine shop to ensure the transmission shafts align correctly. If the engine crankcases are apart its not that difficult to swap parts, check main bearing sizes, if you had other cases. Probably be the cheapest/fastest solution in the end if machining old cases involved.

I think he is saying it has a one eighth inch hole, not an eight inch hole...

I just bit the bullet and purchased another crankcase. Now I'll need to sort out the main bearings and reassemble with all my components.
