100% original 1978 cbx 6 time capsule !!!!

Post by enopac »

Hi there , I'm a new member and owner of an extremely rare one of a kind 1978 cbx 1000 from Sydney Australia.
My cbx has only 43.7 kms on her since new in 78, not (43700)....
Only 43.7 kms the only spanner to touch this bike has been for the battery terminals !!!!
Thought I'd share some photos of her with you all , hope you enjoy.
This bike has never been road registered and lived in the lounge room of my Uncles home for most of it's life,(my uncle was a member of icoa many years ago) before
Being placed into protected storage. It's time she came out !!!! It has survived and is museum quality !!!!
Photos to follow , thanks enjoy !!!!

Hi ya, enopac.
Hopefully your uncle had another one so he could discovered the pleasure of riding a CBX.
Are you planning on putting it on the road?

hi Steve ,unfortunately he didnt have another one he had royal enfields and triumphs and while he did ride it up to 43 kms i think the power was more than he could handle hahahaha , it would be great to get her going again i think it would wreck its authenticity now putting it on the road so i am considering selling it or placing it in the honda collection hall in Motegi Japan, and if i do sell her i would love to buy a restored cbx 6 to have the pleasure you guys have !!!

Is the bike a particularly low serial number or even by some chance a pre-production serial number? I know there were some down your way. Good luck with whatever you decide to do with it.

The fact that it is a '78 doesn't automatically mean it is a low number. Most 79CBXes were built in 1978. Probably more than 19,000.

Is there a gallery of pics of this bike anywhere? It would serve as a great reference for restoration.

I'm particularly interested in knowing if the Australian bikes had a "CAUTION Break-In Maintenance Required at 1000km" decal on the speedo.

US bikes had a decal stating the service was due at 600 miles, but I have been unable to determine if Aussie bikes had a 1000km version of this sticker.

Ben:

The "break-in" sticker for the km/h speedos (I assume also in Australia) was a little more elaborate. They showed ranges of 0-500 km, 500-1000 km and 1000-1500 km with corresponding rpm limits of 4000; 5000 and 6000 rpm.
This is what my original speedo has on it. I replaced it with a 300 km/h unit but I still have it somewhere. Will dig it out and post a picture.
