Alternator Wiring Harness

I removed my '82 alternator last week to check the brushes and replace the cracked rubber grommet that surrounds the wires exiting the alt cover. Installing the new grommet required that I remove all 5 wires from the red connector at the battery so I marked all the wires and their locations on the plastic connector before beginning. Unfortunately during the pushing and tugging trying to get the 30 year-old spades to separate from the plastic connector, I apparently smudged my carefully applied sparpie labels ('1', '2', and '3') on two of the three yellow wires. Now all three yellow wire lables mostly resemble a '1'. So after successfully snaking the new grommet over the wire bundle, I no longer know exactly where to place the yellow wires in the red plastic connector.
So my first question is - does it actually matter which yellow wire goes in which slot in the red plastic connector? If the answer to the first question is 'yes', then the second question is - how do I figure out which yellow wire goes where?
Thanks in advance.
