Building RC 166 Style Tribute Cafe Racer

Post by Blizzgitt555 »

I want to build an RC 166 Style Tribute Cafe Racer based on my 79 CBX. I plan on using the Pipe master 6 into 6 system, and need advice on sources for a correct tank and seat combo, as well as a possible fairing that will be compatible with the stock CBX frame. Any help from members that have done a build like this would be greatly appreciated. As I need to decide on the seat and tank before any frame mods and powder coating is started I need some direction so I can get her done before next season!
many thanks
Scotty

Welcome Scotty!

Whoa, that should be a fun and interesting project. Hmmm, this is ringing a bell - I seem to recall that this has been done before. Perhaps one of the long-time members can shed some light on that. I might have seen the article in a back issue of the club's magazine, the CBXPress. Anyone?

I'd go look at Vesco for vintage fairings. I just did sell an old H2 fairing from that era, they sell new and reproduction fairings from that period and might even take an interest in your project if you asked.

Here's a couple of links:

A lot of cafe-oriented businesses are popping up, that's a good avenue to investigate:

Please let us follow along as you build your bike! And again, welcome!

P.S.

If you search for RC166 and RC 166 (upper right) you will find a LOT of threads, including a few that reference CBX-based replicas.

Also, I made a custom search page (that nobody uses :-)) that searches all the major CBX-oriented sites. Make my day and try your search on the "Mondo CBX Search tool on this page:

http://www.cbxclub.com/search

That'll pretty much fill up the rest of your day. :laughing-rollingyellow:

Search is your friend!
