Hello From Toronto Ontario (Need help. THANKS!)

Hi All!

I just got myself a 1982 Honda CBX Supersport.
its the white/cream & blue one...

I first found out bout the CBX online and instantly fell in love with the 6 cyln and the sound!

I was then introduced to a few rebuilds/modernized CBX's which inspired me to take on this project.

I got the bike home and noticed every time i turn the fuel petcock to on or reserve, the overflows start leaking fuel.

Stuck floats? the bikes having a hard time starting, that's for sure. perhaps a fresh oil change & filter will help.

I was wondering if you guys have any advice on which front end and swing arms are direct bolt on's with this year of CBX.

Would a 2000 R1 swingarm fit? I just happen to have one laying around.

You advice/input would be greatly appreciated Thanks!

Sorry to be the first in the chorus but your running problems are almost certainly the carbs, and you are in need of a rebuild if the bike has not been run steadily, or put away very carefully.

Thanks for the reply.

I went out to the garage and change the oil so it had something new to circulate through the engine.

I tried to start the bike a few times, and here are the results.

- It only seems to want to start with a little choke (1/2 way?)

- You need to keep giving it some gas to keep the rpms to 2000 or so rpm else it will bog down and die.

- If you take the choke off, it will bog down and die.

- the whole time this is happening, it is pouring fuel out of the overflow tube.

I think I need to rebuild the carbs... (will get to it after making a little more space in the garage -- this weekend.)

I just wanted to know the the engine still worked before i ripped anything apart =)

After this weekend (building some extra storage into the garage)

I'll take some pictures of the bike before i start taking bits off & rebuilding the carbs. (carb rebuild kit already ordered.)

Any tips on cleaning up the carbs and also making them look brand spanking new?

You need Mike Nixon's book:

If you need needle valves, to stop the fuel overflow problem, get them from PJ Motorsports on this page:

You need order number 018-880. Nevermind the fact that it says they are for a 750. These are the ones you need. This assumes that your valve bodies are still OK, and all you need is the needle.

Take your time and do a thorough job.

Welcome to the site.
Make lots of room in the garage, you will need lots of space for parts before you get to the carbs.
Like Spencer said, the Mike Nixon carb book is the best tool to buy.
