Hey Folks....Newbie here.

Post by 79cbx »

Hello,

I'm Jerry, 49, from Southern Indiana and I just bought a CBX after wanting one for years. I've been around bikes all my life, have had several different makes of bikes over the years. I have several Kawasaki H2's that are just a blast to ride. I also have another Honda 6, a Honda Valkyrie. It's a beast, very smooth and a great cruising bike. I almost always work on my own stuff and do an alright job for myself. :D

Last weekend I purchased a 79 CBX. I have the original title from the original owner and it was sold to me as a one owner bike because the guy I bought it from didn't title the bike. It's showing 92xx miles but, sure cant verify if that's correct mileage and it does need work. Carb clean, valves etc. etc. It does have a clutch rattle (typical for them I've read) I did remove the clutch cover and found that the previous owner installed one bolt in the wrong hole and yep, you guess it, cracked off the mounting lug. So, needless to say, I need a clutch pressure plate. If anyone can steer me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. I'm hoping to find tons of info from this site and I'm sure I will ask questions of you all from time to time. Thanks for listening. 8)

Hey Jerry, welcome to the site and good luck with your CBX.
Louis at usedcbxparts.com can help you with a pressure plate or keep an eye out on ebay.

Hi ya, Jerry.
Great looking bikes!
Do you know what brand the exhaust is on your CBX. They look like Ontario[OMT] pipes to me.
From the looks of things you could contribute to the dual disc Kawi thread.
I love the smell of blue haze in the morning.

Hi Steve, Thanks.

I have no clue who made the pipes. There isn't anything on them that tells who the maker was.

Yes, blue haze is cool. :P

Thanks, I also have a 74h2. In the process of restoring it now, it's a green one.

Welcome Jerry. Nice bikes.

I'm just up the road from you, at Lawrenceburg, just west of Cincinnati.

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.

Thanks Jeff, good speaking with you as well. I have the tool made and it works, I just hope the teeth don't break off the thing when I torque it.
