is blue a stock colour? any Ideas about my x's prob.
new to the coa but have had many CBX's over my biking career. At present, I have a blue (which i am told is the original colour) cbx supersport 1979 us import. I would like to know if the blue is in fact a stock honda cbx colour. Also it runs like doo doo at the minute under 4000 rpms even though I have had the carbs off and checked and cleaned them several times. also have tryed coils, pick ups, and cdi unit to no avail. anyhelp on this would be greatly appreciated.

I had similar problems with my 80 and tried all of the things you have thinking I had the carbs clean. I found that my float levels were set too low and as such there was not enough fuel in the float bowls to reach the idle jet tower. Check the float levels and keep cleaning until carb cleaner comes out of all the right orifices. Mike Nixon sells an excellent booklet that explains in detail the procedures plus there are some great carb guys on this site who can help you.

What Ross said on the carbs - your problem is there. Blue was never a stock color on a CBX.

Joe:
The quick way to see if you are close on the float level is to hold the carbs upright and push the float to near horizontal with the carb body. The float tab should just be touching the spring pin on the float - not depressing it at all. The correct level is for the float body to be just slightly past horizontal, if you want to get them exact.
But I suspect that you still have plugged idle circuits. They are very hard to clean and you need to remove the pressed-in jets to do it right.

You can check your float levels with the carbs on the bike by putting a clear tube on the drain fitting, curve the tube up alongside the carb, open the drain screw and observe the fuel level in the tube - It should be just a bit above the seam where the float bowl meets the carb body

You'll need to do that six times of course to check each individual carb

Have the carbs in a sonic machine soaking overnight. I will re-assemble and check float levels tomorrow. I did find i was missing the metal tube that sits above the main jet fuel emulsifyer on number four carb though (part the main jet screws into) and that wouldnt have helped things. Thanks for all the advice lads. I will let yez know how I go. Braaaaap! My local expert swears my x's blue paint job is stock and has a few extra blue side casings to back it up. I have never seen the colour on another X but I am inclined to believe him. Can any of you verify that my blue one is stock thanks lads

A blue CBX is probably a beautiful machine (as is the green one posted on here elsewhere), but nobody that I know of has ever seen ONE that was factory.
Please post a pic though. This sounds interesting.

Joe, the meat of the matter is that you need to resize your photos to a maximum of about 800 pixels wide, and then save them in the jpeg ( or jpg) file format before uploading. It's beyond what I can type to teach you in a post how to resize your photos, but it's not as hard as learning to use a hand clutch, so I am betting you can learn how to do itjoesoap wrote:I keep trying to post my X pics but it says they are too big I am computer illiterate so I dont know how to rectify this anyone help???????????????

With regard to resizing your images, I offer you this link, for both your amusement and utility:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+resize+pictures+for+forums
Again, if you will take the time to follow a couple of the links and practice what you learn there, my guess is you'll be proficient at uploading photos in a lot less tine than it took to learn to do a figure 8 on your bike.
Welcome to the forum!

Your blue sidecovers are PROOF that you have a repainted CBX - No matter what color '79 and '80 CBX's came from the factory, ALL sidecovers were black . . . . no exceptionsjoesoap wrote:My local expert swears my x's blue paint job is stock and has a few extra blue side casings to back it up. All '79's were either red or silver with flat black sidecovers. '80 models were either red or black . . . . the black ones had shiny sidecovers to match the tank and the sidecover color on the red '80 models is still a bit open to discussion, but they were still all black . . . . either shiny black or flat black
My red '79 is the factory Candy Glory red, but I had the sidecovers painted the same color, as I think it looks better . . . . but those painted sidecovers are a dead giveaway that the bike has been repainted - They would be black if it was a factory paintjob
You can be 100% sure that your blue is not original . . . . your bike left the factory either red or silver because those were the only 2 color choices for 1979
