I use NGK DR8EIX (iridium) plugs for my 79Z which of course have built in RFI resistors.
Is it OK to REMOVE the ~4.5K resistors from the plug caps my bike came with?
Surely I do not need both ... I have already done this to my Goldwing, and hence the attached pic.

You should be fine since the plugs originally spec'd for you CBX are non-resistor types if I remember correctly. Brass spacers make a good substitute for the resistors; other materials may be better, I don't really know.

Good stuff. So I am going to have them removed.
I guess every spec of additional energy we can pump into these plugs must be a good thing.

Hi, removing them is dead easy, just unscrew the brass screw tops using a smallish flat screwdriver. Just make sure nothing flies off as a result of the action of the spring.
As for the brass or any other metal rods, take one of the removed resistors with you and visit your friendly hardware store? Go to a machine shop?
It is a matter of bumping into something with similar dimensions. As for me, I used the spacers in the pic which I had lying around.

P.S. I should state here that I have personally experienced NO improvement in my CBX or Gold Wing ignition systems whatsoever.
I would spend a lot of time making sure everything else in the path of the generation and propagation of the sparks is perfect, and then maybe remove the 5K resistors.

In a lot of cases, a poor spark on earlier CBXes is a result of bad ignitors.

I'm not having any ignition issues at this time (knock on wood). Just sounds like a good thing to to as the goal is usually to get a little resistance as possible between the coil and the plug. I tried to remove my resistors last night but I was not able to do so. I think my 1980 has the original wires and caps but the caps are not NGK. They did ohm out about 5k but there is no screw to remove on the plug end of the cap. So I gave up and put them back on.

Plug caps vary a lot, depending on the country. Remember the author of the article lives in Greece.
