Piston to wall clearances

Post by LamarX »

Hi all, here I go again with my Wiseco pistons. Last year I had some bad experiences with machine shops over boring my cylinders and having hours of aggravation, I decided to take a break. Since then some research on my pistons and what was expected is .002 piston to wall according to wiseco. I been looking around and some of us are going a little tighter that. This week I am going to attempt to get another block bored out, I will be inclined to ask for .0016 piston to wall.

What do you all think of that ?

Thank you.

Ok here is what I have for the results I was looking for. Piston to wall is .002 Pistons spec are measured 90 degrees to wrist pin hole 1.4477" down from bottom of ring land is 2.557". Bore size 2.559"
First ring end gap is .014 the second ring is .016 - .018 and the oil ring as is.
Cylinder finish is at 480 grit
65 mm pistons part # 10185M06500
All this information came from Wiseco, great response and very helpful.

Good info, Marc. Although I do have a hard time with inch measurements on a metric engine. Just can't get used to it and the numbers are totally abstract to me. Until I get a calculator out and come up with weird numbers :roll: 0.002" is 0.0508mm :?: :shock:

Here I thought I'd make it easier for the good old USA and use imperial. .002" = 0.0508 mm PTW
.014" = .3556 mm top ring
.016" = .4064 mm Second ring
.018" = .4572 mm
Yes indeed good information, now I question why I didn't get this out of the kit, things would be much easier the first time. Water under the bridge but it still hurts. Don't compare these number with OEM pistons as they are way off, the ring end gap is way smaller on OEM. 0.15 ~ 0.30 mm top ring.
Thanks, Marc
