Here's a tip for any owners of a 79 or 80 CBX who need to replace their headlight assembly or wish for better lighting while retaining the stock look of the bike. I recently replaced the complete headlight assembly on my 79 with one from a 2003 Honda CB919 Hornet. Fits perfectly, looks great, and provides much superior lighting. [/b]

When you say "complete headlight assembly" are you talking about the entire shell that contains all the connections, or just the lamp and the chrome flange around it?
Where did you find the new one, and how much did it set you back?

I started out needing just the shell as my old one was cracked from the previous owner tightening the attachment bolts too tight. My Honda dealer suggested that I try just the shell from a CB919. It fit the bike fine but the 79 Headlight Assembly (lamp, chrome ring) didn't fit the 2003 shell so I wound up buying the whole works from my Honda dealer. I'm glad I did as it turned out great. The whole issue cost about $190 Cdn.

Sorry, tossed out all the packaging. Readily available, though, as the CB919 is a current model.

I am not up to date on the Big Red's current line-up. Is the Hornet available in the U.S.??

Yes, although in North America it's called just the "919". "Hornet" is the Japanese and European name for the bike. See

I couldn't find any reference to the 919 anywhere on
www.ronayers.com and $190 Canadian works out to be about $135 US, so it would seem like Les's local dealership has GREAT prices, comparatively.
Wondering WHAT you looked up at Ron Ayers to get these prices??
What I'd really like is just a couple of Honda part numbers . . . .

Yes, I could have done that I suppose. I try pretty hard not to bother folks with requests like this when I know I'm not going to buy the product in question from THEM - Seems only fair.
Looks like Les DID get a heck of a good price in Canada for these parts - They're certainly more expensive down here, even from the "discount" parts places.
I appreciate the part numbers Ripper - Thanks a bunch.
