Annual registration fees
Just got my renewal for the 82 even though it’s not due until March. The California DMV wants $177 for the 2025 license tag and renewed registration. I didn’t expect them to charge that much for such an old bike. My six year old Kawasaki is $179 and my nineteen year old Suzuki is $172.
Go ahead rub it in, what are you paying where you live?

Re: Annual registration fees
Here in Michigan we can register for "Historic" plates in 2 methods.
1. A state issued plate that's good for 10 years or
2. A "year of origin" plate that you buy (from a plate collector or such) and register it with the state for $35. Good forever.
There are driving restrictions limited to parades, events or "mechanical testing" (loop hole).
I've run them on my bikes for years and never been hassled or questioned.

Re: Annual registration fees
I'm in Kaliforniakov as well. I remember back many years ago I was paying under $50 for my CBX registration. This is getting rediculous ... don't get me started on the gas tax here ...

As I recall the ‘antique’ plates here are for vehicles 45 years old or older and they too have riding restrictions.CBX-tras wrote: Sun Feb 02, 2025 8:39 am Here in Michigan we can register for "Historic" plates in 2 methods.

Gas taxes are about 25% of what we pay in California. Where is this Kaliforniakov? California is pretty far from being a Russian state.mrcbx wrote: Sun Feb 02, 2025 10:13 am I'm in Kaliforniakov as well. I remember back many years ago I was paying under $50 for my CBX registration. Re: Annual registration fees
Regular Michigan fee is $25. Are motor vehicles in CA considered personal property? States where they are considered personal property sometimes add that tax onto the plate. I'd hate to guess what plates for today's land barges might cost you.

This is the registration breakdown,
Registration fee is $140
License fee is $15
County/district fee is $22
For a total of $177
No taxes are listed as such but in reality the fees are all taxes.

Re: Annual registration fees
How my heart bleeds for you all.
'Special Vehicle Interest Scheme' registration in QLD, Australia is $186 Aus pesos per year.
That gives me a 30km test and tune radius with any riding outside of that only covered under the auspices of a formalised club run.
I could decide to avail myself of 'full' registration at only $556.35 per year to allow unfettered road access, but CBXs are at least 30 years old so I won't be doing that.
Ask the NSW and VIC residents how much it costs them for full registration...

Re: Annual registration fees
New York State is $17.50 yearly registration fee, then the annual safety inspection is $6.00. No property tax on vehicles. But they charge sales tax every time you buy a bike based on the sales price, on used bikes as well. Hope I didn’t just jinx us!

Michigan historic vehicles need to be 25 years old or older to be eligible.

I can see your ‘unfettered’ road access registrations are way too high, punitive even but what’s the age of the CBX have to do with anything? Are cars more than $556.35 per year? My ten year old car is $317.pmcburney wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 1:41 am How my heart bleeds for you all.

In Queensland, non-concessional car registration cost is tied (for some strange reason) to the number of cylinders/rotors of the engine.
A four cylinder car costs $718.35, a five and six cylinder is $886.65 and an eight (or more) cylinder is $1069.55 (Aus dollars of course).
Concessional or 'club' registration can apply to vehicles more than thirty years old, and it's significantly cheaper but comes with some caveats as stated in my original post.
If you ride a bike or drive a car that's less than thirty years old, well you're paying as above to keep them on the road every year here.
By the way, it's relatively 'cheap' to register a car in Queensland compared to the other states in Aus.
My somewhat laboured point is that familiarity can breed a bit of contempt - I'm sure there's plenty of folk doing it tough in the US, but it's no different elsewhere and it's often far worse.

Re: Annual registration fees
I just remember paying something like $35 for my CBX back in the 90's ... I don't mind paying for the unfettered road use but in my opinion the state is over charging for registration. My 2 Arizona bikes pay $65 for 2 years per bike and they are 1982's ....
any way me bitching about this will get this matter nowhere.

Re: Annual registration fees
Blimey, I never thought I would find anything in the United Kingdom cheaper than other places BUT all vehicles over 40 years old have ZERO annual licence charge (and no annual MoT test). They are named "Historic Vehicles" which sounds about right to me. I have four so it's quite a saving.
However, our new Government, which is as close to Marxist possible in Europe, is rumoured to be re-thinking this law which has been around for a long time so I expect we will soon have the highest annual charges in the World soon!
