I know its a basic question but its my first time replacing the oil filter in my 82 cbx. I've had it for few months.
Where the small rubber is placed? I can't see the old one
Thanks

Do you still have the spring washer? It is very likely missing. Love to be seeing you use genuine Honda filters instead of aftermarket. But carry on!

I recently rebuild an 1100R motor due to missing steel washer and spring (the same part the CBX has) which resulted in catastrophic oiling loss and failure.

Don't neglect these basic but critical parts.

My experience was with the steel washer [part #17] missing and the spring had torn into the rubber ring on the filter itself making the spring useless.
Luckily no engine damage.

What I've seen most often is the washer missing when it gets stuck to the grommet
in the end of the old filter and gets thrown away. Then the spring, installed without
the washer, either tries to chew into the grommet on the new filter or pushes the
grommet into the filter (the washer is larger dia. than the hole in the filter but the
spring is not). I've found springs and grommets inside the filter, sometimes because
the washer was installed first, then the spring, then the filter.
Can't find the washer ? Look on the end of your old filter before discarding. :-)
