Shift shaft

Hello, good people. I have a shift shaft question, before I reassemble the cases, which direction does does it go? The rounded side, on the clutch side or thread side? The shift shaft has different lengths, shorter side on the shift drum shifter side.
Please share specifics.

Not sure what you are asking. The shop manual shows very clearly how all the parts that you show are assembled.

Dave, thanks, my question wasn't clear--I am wanting to make sure I have the shift shaft in facing the proper direction before putting the cases back together, and I couldn't see in the manual with my old eyes which side of the shift shaft faces out on the clutch side. One end is beveled, the other is not, and want to avoid a wonderful 4 speed CBX. !!
For clarity, either on the clutch side, or shift drum/shifter side, does the beveled side face? TIA

The shift shaft (which the selector fork slide on) has an internal thread on one end - that goes clutch side. If you put it the other way around, as you say you get a four speed box.

OK, the shift fork shaft. If you look at the slightly exaggerated drawing of the shift fork shaft in the manual, you will see there is an offset to one side. The offset is hard to see on the shaft itself, but it is there. That's how I tell. The threaded side toward the clutch is likely easier to remember.
