Cbx 1000 Camshafts end seals

Post by jetts68 »

Hi all I'm enquiring about the camshaft end seals. I can't see how these seals work. They are too deep in the shafts to make contact with the rocker cover gasket or any other parts.

The camshaft end seals are made into the cam cover thick rubber gasket.

Those seals in the ends of the camshafts themselves are "restrictors", they slow the oil flow through the cams and also allow oil to pool inside them. Just make sure they are not pushed in to far - they can block oil flow to the outer cam caps.

Re: Cbx 1000 Carburetor leak

Post by jetts68 »

Ok I've overhauled the carburettors to factory standards. Bowls leak test and fuel level correct in the bowls. With the carburettors level no leaks. Perfect. Now pitch the carburettors left and right. " question " at what degree of angle would the float bowl vent leak fuel.
Considering this! I have an angle of 40°.leaning right at this point number 5 carb drips at 42° all carbs leak.
Now pitch to the left leaning angle left. Drip on carb 1 at 41°.
All carburettors leak 42°.
Question is this what angle should you reach without fuel leaking.

If you set the levels to spec. Why are you inventing a problem ? Wet test them overnight and move on.

The carbs will leak if you drastically over-tilt them. Approximating the installed angle when testing is what you should do. But just make sure you have no cracked standpipes. These are a very common source of leaks that guys miss.

Camshaft end seals are important rubber seals that prevent oil from leaking out around the camshafts in the engine. They fit at the ends of the camshafts, where they stick out from the cylinder head. These seals keep the oil where it should be and avoid messy leaks. To install new camshaft end seals, you'll need to access the camshaft ends by removing any blocking parts, like the timing belt or timing chain. Once you can reach them, simply slide the new seals into place. Don't forget to apply a bit of engine oil to help them fit well.
