New member in Arizona
I live in sunshiney Arizona with great riding weather year round. I got this 1981 model a few months ago. Seems to be in very good condition with less than 16,000 miles. The tires though, are 25 years old, and of course need replacement. If the sole criteria is grip, what are some tire recommendations? I don't care how long the tires last, they'll age out before I use up the tread, and cost is a secondary concern.

Oooooh, nice one! Greetings from Tucson!
I like the Shinko Tourmaster 230s, others love the Bridgestone BT45s. The Shinkos are a total bargain. I get them at Rocky Mountain ATV.

Nice find ! Especially the mileage. Drilled discs, nice touch ! I would be afraid to ride it
with those tires.
with those tires.

Welcome to the site, John.
Great looking '81 and agree on the drilled discs. Funny how a small change draws the eye.
I am a BT45 fan but they are being replaced by the BT46 which i haven't used.

One other plus with the Shinkos is they come in the correct 130/90-18 size. The BT45 only comes in 130/80-18.

To add to Dave's reply regarding the 130/80: It WILL make a difference when you go to put the bike up on the centerstand -- noticeably more effort. It's even noticeable on the sidestand. Makes the bike more vertical. Another tire comment -- be certain to replace the front with a 100/90; NOT a 110.
