Another CBX'r in Colorado. 79 CBX

Post by JWD »

Hello all from Colorado, US!
We live in Woodland Park, CO. Not too far from Colorado Springs and Denver. A few months back I was able to get my hands on a tired 1979 CBX that has been sitting for quite a number years...and so the adventure is about to begin. As I mentioned to another forum member, I may have somewhat overestimated my capabilities, and underestimated the scarcity and cost of parts...LOL! But I've always loved these bikes, so as they say..."in for a penny, in for a pound"
I've spent quite a bit of time reading on the forum and am awestruck at the body of knowledge on display.
I'm glad to be aboard and thanks in advance for all the questions sure to come!
My best regards,
JW

Welcome JW! You’ve found the right place for assisting with your adventure. Take to heart what you read here. Virtually nothing you run into hasn’t been discussed at length. Look forward to some pics and progress.

Hi ya, JW.
If you have been reading old threads you will have also seen that once you done the all the repairs and riding, the time, effort and cost concerns will disappear.

Welcome aboard. You'll find all kinds of help here.

So, what else is in the barn? You live in a great area to ride, but you knew that. Last time we were in Woodland Park, we stayed at the motel on the west side of town near the top of a hill, behind O'Riley's auto parts. The Hells Angels were having their annual meeting in Cripple Creek and the Cleveland Ohio group was in our hotel. They treated us well.

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.

Hey Rick,
Yep, it's a pretty area and we moved from Denver / Conifer and retired here. I've had to thin the herd since we don't have as much room. I still have the CBX and an old Honda XL I use to bop around town and ride the fire roads. I have a Harley I rode to Texas for a trip to Big Bend with some friends. That got blown out of the water by Covid so we're going to give it another shot in fall.
The Vets ride / rally in Cripple Creek is a great weekend. It sometimes attracts some shady looking characters (kinda like me) but everybody has fun and we've never seen any trouble.

Well, we seem to like riding in the same places. Big bend is one of our favorites for winter riding. We spent three weeks in Study Butte this past February.

We explored some part of Colorado in 2011 with some friends. Stayed in Monument - on the other side of the freeway from Woodland Park - in a very nice B&B.

JW!

I'm in Colorado Springs with an nice 81 CBX as part of my herd. I was planning on hitting the Veterans Rally that I hear this year has moved from Cripple Creek to Woodland Park. But I may end up on a business trip that week. Perhaps we can overlap somewhere and compare notes?

Hey Bryan,
That would be excellent. I'd buy you a beer. My CBX is apart in the garage and I'm poking at it as time and finances allow. My hopes are to finish it up as a winter project and be able to ride it come spring.
Yep, the Veterans Rally is in Woodland Park Aug 20-21 this year. My other bike is in Texas for a planned Big Bend ride so I'll just be a spectator this year.
