Hi everyone from Mike, here on the Wirral peninsula just near to Liverpool. Bought my CBA1000A a few years ago, I paid a low price for it as although the bike looked fairly nice it would not tick over properly and not at all below 1500 to 1800 RPM. it unfortunately run like a bag of spanners as we brits would say. I assumed this was mainly down to the carbs. It had just had it yearly MOT test so it was legal to ride, but I got it home in a van. When I home I checked the compressions which where fine number 4 was 20lbs lower than the others but I didn't think that is enough to worry about
On the occasions that I did ride it was just to the local bike meet, where I rode into the car park and immediately turned it off, because I was a bit embarrassed as to the sound it made on tick over. I have several old Hondas, all the others sound nice none look as nice as the CBX. So I decided that before I would ride it again I would make it run nice and do the small mount of cosmetic stuff that I thought needed doing.
Real work then got in the way so I din't have the time, but this spring I have the time and I want to finally ride it. Striped cleaned etc the brakes. Then Took the engine out checked over generator, starter motor clutch etc bushes, plates checked generator continuity etc all serviceable did the shims, gave the engine a nice coat of paint. Then set about the carbs. Striped them out found that 3 of the pilot screws had the tips snapped of and jammed in the carb bodies, they took a bit of getting out, strip down and sonic cleaned the carbs, twice. Getting the little airway around the pilot being the most difficult to archive. Put them together with new seals, needled floats etc. put the bike back together, balance the carbs, now sounds nice ticks over at 1000 rpm nicely. But all is not sunshine and roses in my bike shed.
Got one problem not charging on tick over, charging starts at at around 2500 rpm, then at around 3500 rpm the fuse on the right hand side blows, bit odd. Also the fuse in the fuse box for the head lamp gets hot to the touch. Checked the reg/rec unit according to the manual seems OK and compared results with the reg/rec on my CB900 DOHC which has basically the same unit apart from connector block colours I will put a more detailed post onto the relevant part of the forum if I can't work it out
Happy riding MIKE

Welcome to the site, Mike.
Getting the carbs sorted on the first attempt is a major accomplishment.
Feel free to post a pic of your Six and your other Hondas.

Congrats on getting your bike running well. You may have more than one electrical problem. You need to monitor the alternator output directly at the battery at various revs to see just what you have. As for blowing a fuse and warm connections, all your wire harness connectors need inspected/cleaned. Focus on the alternator connector particularly, as well as the lead from the main fuse. Then be sure you didn't pinch a wire during engine out/in. Common place to pinch is at the top right of the airbox when tilting the engine back in place. The main harness catches under the top airbox bracket.

Thanks Steve but although there are six of them they are basically the same carbs across the whole Honda range so I have had this type of carb in bits before. Thanks for the advise on pinched wires I don't think I did but who knows whats happen in the past. I will take of the loom and check for any resistance. Some or the connectors look gruby so I will clean them up at the same time.
