New member from Brisbane
Hey all
Chris Here from Brisbane , Australia.
I recently purchased a 81 CBX1000 painted in 82 livery, she has been partially disassembled and in storage for past 5 years. I am going to get her running and back on the road . I have a few old Suzuki 2 strokes and a few modern bikes as well, the CBX is my first 6 cylinder bike.
Looking forward to learning about the CBX

Re: New member from Brisbane
thanks for the warm welcome everyone, I have been working on the CBX in between other jobs at work (I run a motorcycle wreckers in Brisbane Australia).
The Carbs were removed and stripped and cleaned, the fuel valve tips are very hard and new ones have been ordered. I confirmed she wasn't ceased and then set about testing the electrics, good news everything worked except we had no spark, turns out when the bike was stripped the ignitors were removed and stored somewhere safely, so safely in fact the previous owner cant find them. I had a hunt around the shop and found 2 CB900 battery boxes which still had the ignitors attached, I plugged three of them in and confirmed that we had spark on all 6 pots. I have reassembled the carbs and refitted them to the head, poured in some fresh fuel and low and behold she fired up , she is hunting a bit, but I am very happy she is running. I sent a vid of the bike running to a mate of mine in the VJMC club showing off my handiwork and he put me onto a local guy who has a few CBX spares, he had a very low mileage set of Delkevic pipes so we did a deal and they will be replacing the "custom" set that is on there. I have ordered some rebuild kits for the master cylinders and calipers, new tyres, OEM grips and a chain and sprocket set, I think I am close to having everything I need to get her on the road, now it is just finding the time to do everything.
These are my 2 stinkers Cheers N Beers

Nice looking Suzukis.
Never seen the orange paint scheme.
Good work on getting the CBX running.
Having access to a bike yard for missing/broken parts is almost cheating. lol.

Re: New member from Brisbane
I have been busy working on the cbx, new tyres have been fitted, forks rebuilt with new seals , front fairings are back on. I am waiting on front and rear master cylinder rebuild kits, new Ohm Honda grips and a replacement seat cover to arrive.
After going through my box of parts, I believe the only part I am missing is a left hand mirror, would any Australian based members have one for sale ?

I have been making more headway with the cbx ‘ alas the tank has come back from the painter With bad news, it has heaps of pinholes and the liner is lifting , finding cbx1000bin Australia is Proving somewhat difficult.
Both front rear brake cylinders and calipers are kitted and bled with fresh dot3
Carbs were stripped and sent off to be ultrasonically cleaned , I am quite impressed with how they came out , I am waiting on some seals before reassembling
Back to hunting for a tank

I see you're making progress. Bummer about the tank. Lots of them floating around over here, shipping is big $$$ as you know. About the carbs - were they cleaned as a whole rack as shown? If so, you really do need to separate them completely and install new Viton o-rings. They will leak if you don't. It's not a small job and can be very frustrating, so do your homework.

Hi Kiffsta,
I have a container load of restored Prolink parts down here in Nelson, including mirrors and a set of CV's restored by Old School at great expense by a previous owner. You can contact me if you are interested (0409983233). Maybe we could do a swap if you have any parts for an NC30 or a late model GSXR750.
Roly Skate over in Melbourne has lots of CBX parts, too.
Rick.
