Item No: 8.
I am working on my 79 engines and i dont see this washer in my box of bits.
I took the Tachometer drive off one of my 82 bikes and that does not have a washer either and it has been humming away for years.
Anyone know anything about it? is it necessary?
Thank you.

Well, it's supposed to be there - they all came with one. Your experience shows it will work OK without it, so let that be your guide, I guess. A thrust washer is generally of harder material than a plain washer, so finding a suitable substitute might be tough. I'm sure Louis here in the states has one or two for you if you decide you need them.

Well Dave, I found 3 hardened washers with the correct 8mm hole and it's 3 washers i am needing but they look a bit hefty for this application.

I'd say thickness matters. The original ones are quite thin.

FYI, There are 2 types of gears, the long spigot one came out of my 81 Prolink.
