My fellow enthusiasts,
My name is Sean Alexander, I'm a recently semi-retired 50yr old who just moved to Hawaii after spending the last 20 years as a roadracer, journalist, publisher, and marketing manager inside the motorcycle industry. Now that I'm here making a fresh-start of the rest of my life, it's time to add a motorcycle to the garage for pure pleasure and the sweet howling CBX

is right at the top of my list! Like most old racers, I'm an experienced mechanic and tuner and not too afraid of mechanical restoration. However, I'd rather not have to worry about fixing trashed cosmetics, so I'll probably end up buying something clean on the mainland and then delivering it to San Diego for shipping home to Hawaii. My gut tells me that for aural pleasure I probably want to find a nice set of Staintune or PipeMasters, am I on the right track?

Welcome Sean! Yes, buy the best one you can find/afford. Will save you a lot of trouble. There are nice ones out there. What, exactly do you think you want?
Dave

Well Dave, it seems I'm fairly schizophrenic when it comes to motorcycles, so what I want is all of the following in a CBX:
*A mostly stock and pretty pearl white '82 with all touring parts.
*A restomod silver and black '79 with sportkit ergos, mild sporting engine build (Cams, springs, retainers, compression, mild head porting, flatslides, etc.) and a medium-volume exhaust that's capable of being fairly quiet when needed.
*A wild custom Super Naked with a superbike-level motor and PipeMasters or similar six-into-six exhaust.
When I find any of the above in the right condition at the right price, I'll buy it and then do my best to finish it into one of the three that I've described above.
