New stainless valves

I believe I have some major problems with my new stainless valves...
They visually seemed fine at the start, so I put all the exhaust valves in and everything looked good.





But when I started putting the intakes in....I believe there is a problem.
The exhaust valves stick out beyond the retainer as the originals did.
But the intake valves are set in at same level or lower than the retainer.
Either the seats were cut too deep and tops of valves cut off to compensate for shims, or the lock was machined in the wrong spot.
This isn't the way they should be.....no clue what issues I would have with finding shims too.

Yes, you have a problem there, but the exhaust stems don't look nearly even with each other either. I must be missing something, are these all-new valves, never installed before? Did you have the head reconditioned by someone prior to installation? Usually, when valve pockets get cut too deeply, the stems stick up too far. I've seen the stems ground down, and this leads to what you see with your intakes. But if these arr all-new valves, how did the stems get cut down?

Did Preston Marks do the head work? If so, he's about the best. He did not have the valves when he did the machine work? Think I've heard of some issues with the stainless valves somewhere else too, but can't remember what. Preston can help you out if he was the one that did the work.

Then that’s who I’d be calling. Almost looks like each valve was fit/ground for a specific hole, then they were all mixed up and not marked. In any case, you correctly point out that the head of the stems cannot sit below the keeper tops. Second problem, as you also note, is the shim nightmare.

That's Ray Mancini I think, and he's no slouch. I'm dumbfounded in part about why the head was not assembled at the same time the seats were cut. But something is AFU here, no two ways about it.

I was so pissed off about the valve work done on my CBX head that i just threw it under my bench and never finished putting the rest of the valves in.
Tims CBX told me to call the machine shop, but at the time I knew I wouldn't be able to control my temper and things would go nowhere....
....which is where they have ended up anyway.
I had my RZV project waiting on me, so I dug in deep on that and finished that build a week ago.

It's time to go back under the bench and put the rest of the valves in, drop some cams in and see if shims will work.
Still pissed off that these new valves are are buried so deep into the seats....might be fine on a lawn mower rebuild, but not a CBX.
And I will attempt to control my thoughts and call the machine shop at some point too.

Doesn't look like a head problem to me, looks like the keeper slots in the valves are the problem. They must be at different heights to allow the springs to sit that high. Try measuring the top of the valve to the top of the keeper slot on both the old and new valves, it seems like this is the discrepancy.
Hold you temper and speak to people, looks like Tims got a bad batch and they can sort it out easier if you talk to them, maybe stop someone else having the same problem.
