New to CBX, needed a project, think I've found one (GULP)
Hi All,
Just bought a project CBX1000 Z from SA.
Plan to restore to "good for the road" not show. I will paint it red, I hear this is the fastest colour :)
I will have loads of questions, but i hope to be of help to others. Spent all my life fixing bikes.

Good for you, and welcome! Looks to be a solid starting point. Looks like a Euro throttle housing/cables with high bars - bet the cables are stretched tight! Ask away when you get started.

Kinda hard to tell with those gray English skies, but that paint looks pretty decent for the street already - even if not original. I always like blue/purple hues if done right. Nothing wrong with a nice, custom CBX. Got one myself.

I'm glad you said this, this is part of my questioning to come.daves79x wrote:Good for you, and welcome! Looks to be a solid starting point. Looks like a Euro throttle housing/cables with high bars - bet the cables are stretched tight! Ask away when you get started.

I'm looking to put lower bars on it. poss CB900F. mainly are they wide enough to look right, and lower than the current ones,
Do you know if they would fit?
I can make the bush 35mm to 37 or 39mm to allow for the fork size.

Hi guys,
I'm in Peterborough Cambs
Still debating to paint it or leave it, I have got a full fairing in red, but not sure if I will fit it.
TBH I've not had a close look at the exhaust, but I think I prefer the chrome/stainless look, rather than the black downpipes.

I can't tell from the picture if you have the rearsets that go with the Euro bars or not. I do believe there were some World-market bikes with 35mm low bars beside the CBX - don't know which ones. There were none here. Yes, you can make bushings for 37 or 39mm low bars. But over there you might easily find the correct CBX low bars as well.

I'm not sure about the footpegs either, I think the bars go for crazy money due to the amount of imports wanting low bars, like my self.
Just finishing servicing my CB750F1 then fix my CBR 600. Then I can have a serious look at the CBX

There are quite a few 35mm low bars available in Europe. First year CB750/900F and the least expensive are the CBX550 bars. They are a little skinnier and on most of them the locator pins need to be removed in order to get the bars at the right position for the CBX. Once they are installed, they serve the purpose.

for low bars, rear sets and controls email Bert at http://www.sixcenter.nl/index.html he supplied me with everything at a price I couldn't match in N America...cbr_ady wrote:I'm not sure about the footpegs either, I think the bars go for crazy money due to the amount of imports wanting low bars, like my self.

and you were misinformed as to red being the fastest colour, science has definitely proven silver was the fastest cbx

CBX a work in progress, still improving...GS1150EFE completed and awaiting modifications.....RD350, remnants in boxes scattered throughout the garage
