Hi from Scottsdale AZ

Post by ksquared »

Well I did it! I bought a 79 CBX. My wife thinks I'm crazy. Yep, crazy about bikes. I remember the first time I saw a CBX. Couldn't believe my eyes. I thought it was wretched excess. But now I think it's "bitchin" to use a 70's surfer expression. I don't have it yet. It's with the shipper. I hope to get it by early October. This will be the biggest & most powerful bike I've ever been on so I will admit to a little apprehension. My current bikes are both Hondas - a 71 SL350 and a 75 CB400F. Now a 79 CBX. I seem to be stuck in the 70's. Here are some pics...

Congrats and welcome! Except for the seat, she looks just like mine. Nice collection, too.

Welcome from just down the road. From another crowded garage owner. I think the only thing my '79 has in common with yours is the basic bike...and the sport kit!

Nice intro.
No need for new riding gear when all the bikes are red.

Yeah it seems like everywhere I look I see red. Actually it just worked out that way - not by design. Years ago I had a candy blue SL350. It just seems that when I have had the opportunity to get a new ride, my only choice was red. The car is a Vette. I'm restoring a 69 Mustang but I went with 2001 Corvette pewter. I also have a 71 Honda SL175 that I'm restoring. Guess I'll paint it red :-) Hey desertrefugee, a local CBXer! Ever make it to the Pavillions car show?

I haven't been to the Pavillions in years. Used to go quite a bit. Sold the '66 Elky, ex got the '70 Chevelle. I do motorcycles now. Just like the old days. Hope to see you on the road. Not many CBXs out there. If you take yours up, I'd join in.

Thanks guys. Phil I know Marina Del Rey. I grew up in La Canada & lived in Mission Viejo. A friend was over this last weekend and I gave him rides on my bikes. When he was a kid, he lusted over the SL350 so of course he wanted to ride mine. After a while, I suggested we swap (CB400F for SL350). He was impressed. He said it felt so smooth and the brakes were much better. Maybe I'll let him try the CBX. I suspect it is even smoother.

Some may find this amusing. Before I plunked down $ for the CBX, I was looking seriously at a Buell XB9SX. I took it out for a test. Man what torque! Problem was the dealer wanted about $1200 more than market. I couldn't help it if they had too much in it. I have my principles. So I walked away & spent a lot more $ for a CBX. I think I made the right decision.

So now the Buell is worth much less and the CBX is worth much more !! Good choice.
Best,
Phil

Talk about polar opposites in bikes between the CBX and that Buell.
I rode the same model a couple years ago and while fun to ride the vibration was horrendous.
Besides, the Buell would look bad in Red.
