New to the forum and to CBX
Hi all,
My uncle is finally selling me his MINT 1980 Honda CBX with 4K miles on it. He just had the carbs rebuilt etc...it's ready to run! What am I getting myself into! I will be the second owner of this bike...I am honestly nervous to ride it as I don't want anything to happen to it! Going fast isn't what scares me...I sold my Suzuki Hayabusa to buy this bike. I think I got a pretty good deal for the CBX at $5,000. :) I will post pictures when I can. Any tips etc for a new owner such as myself? This bike is the Red/Black color scheme. Exhaust is original 6-2.
Thank you!

Welcome to the ICOA B.R.
If you rode a Hayabusa then the CBX will be different in balance, power, handling and C of G, but you'll pick it up. (I went from a 400cc bike to the CBX no problem.) You will also attract a different group of admirers from the Suzuki. First and foremost is ride it and enjoy it.

Your uncle must have REALLY liked you if you got it for that price.
Spent a couple months with a Busa, it was a big, heavy, FAST bike. The CBX is a big, heavy, fast bike.

As 1980s were not sold officially by Honda directly in many countries in Europe, it would be interesting to know whether it is a Japanese or US production bike, maybe the VIN number.

Re: New to the forum and to CBX
Well here are some pictures of this brute! Any tips on getting the center stand down without giving myself a hernia are appreciated! lol! Only imperfection I am seeing is oxidization on the case cover. Bike is easy to ride, front end seems to wander slightly on the freeway. Forks were just redone...interesting that you can pump air into the forks. Carbs might be running a little rich too. My uncle added some aftermarket parts to this bike long ago...I can't remember everything, but I know it has a different sprocket and the speedo is aftermarket.
It hasn't had new tags since 1984. If you have any tips or thoughts on what you see in the pics let me know! Only thing I may ever do to it is go from 6-2 to 6-1...it's too quiet!

Re: New to the forum and to CBX
Hi,
That is a really nice looking bike.
Looks like it is the A model - has air forks, storage compartment in the tailpiece etc.
What makes you think it has an aftermarket speedo? Looks correct to me.
Welcome to CBX ownership!
Paul.

Thank you! Is that the better model? Sorry, very new to this bike and it's history. My uncle mentioned the original speedo only went to 85?jnnngs wrote:Hi,

OK - so an US import, the speedo you have now is a genuine CBX one not aftermarket.BelfastRacing wrote: My uncle mentioned the original speedo only went to 85?

Re: New to the forum and to CBX
The original speedo would have been 85mph, unless it was a rare European import. Still don't get the comment about 'aftermarket' speedo??
