New guy from vancouver
Hi there. Thought id join rather than lurk around. Ive got a 79 thats has been restored and ran great until the starter ate itself. Other than that its been an experience riding it. I do some amateur racing and that experience definitely helps riding this thing around its limit.

Welcome to the site.
What happened to the starter? Did it seize? New brushes?
What bike are taking to the track?

Yikes, i bet that smells nasty.
A replacement starter shouldn't be hard to find.
I have purchased a couple items from site member: tevan

I have a 4-brush replacement starter that came from Rick’s Motorsport Electrics. Works perfectly, wasn’t cheap.
I think yours might be fixable. Looks like the shaft seized to the bearing and all hell broke loose. That commutator could get machined, the bearing replaced.
Let me know if you are planning to toss it please, and if so there’s nothing to lose for me trying to fix it. I’ll pay the postage to try...
