Hello from Belgium

Post by de Lovinfosse »

Hello,

I am delighted to be welcomed on your forum.

I live in Belgium and I'm 56 years old. Since I was 20 I ride a motorcycle, I owned a Honda CX 500, then Yamaha Super Tenere 750, I did a breack without motorcycles for 20 years and now I have a Honda 750 Four 'French' Sandcast of 1970, a 1973 Kawasaki 900 Z1, a Suzuki GT750 J Violine of 1972, a CBX 1000 of 1978 and I have just bought a CBX Sandcast of pre-production of 1977 with the engine CB1E - 2000012 and the chassis CB1 - 2000012.
I start the restoration of this extraordinary bike now because I would like to present it during the Sunday Ride Classic at Castelet in southern France which will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the CBX. I am also a member of the 'CBX Club de France'
I will be very happy to share with you, if you wish, the steps of the restoration of my 000012 and send you photos. For this restoration, which I want perfect, I will surely need your help to find original pieces, if possible at affordable prices !

My mother tongue is French, but I do it in English and I use goggle translation when it is necessary!

Thank you in advance for your welcome and happy new year !

This is indeed a once-in-a-lifetime find! Welcome to the club and forum. The pre-production bikes are of special interest to many of us here. Yes, this would make a great club magazine article. Please keep us posted with all the updates that you can. Do you know yet if all the unique pre-production parts are still on the bike. Things like: unique speedo lettering, different shape for the fuse cover are a couple. I'm guessing that the head was changed as it has the chrome end hold-down bolts, unless you can tell if the fins on the block were hand welded to accept the bolts, as some were. Also, I would expect serial number 12 to have the tach driven from the intake cam (rear) instead of the regular exhaust place that yours does. That was a running change they made in the pre-production bikes, but I doubt by number 12. We'll help you sort the details the best we can!

Hi,

Really nice collection of bikes!

Welcome to the site, looking forward to seeing #12 come back its original condition!

Is the picture of your '78 CBX, or your recent #12 addition?

Paul.

Thank's for your réponse.
I have to make some precisions about my photos :
Thé first photo of the CBX is the 1978 'normal' And the second photo is the pre-production 000012, I have now 2 CBX !
Sorry for the confusion but I have include a description with the photos And it don't appear on it.

affordable prices? you have a cbx and every parts supplier on the planet knows how valuable those are to us... :D

the best parts suppliers are Louis and Bert who will have almost everything you need...both are honest dealers, Bert even has a frame from a Sandcast hanging on his wall, I think it's number #10 or #14...

-Louis in Florida, CBX Used Parts http://www.usedcbxparts.com/
-Bert in Netherlands, Six Center Motoren http://www.sixcenter.nl/index.html
CBX a work in progress, still improving...GS1150EFE completed and awaiting modifications.....RD350, remnants in boxes scattered throughout the garage

OK. Your sandcast does not have the end head bolts. It does look to have the tach drive in the normal location. Very interested to see and hear more.

Robert - these pre-production units have many unique features and no one would have any 'spares' for them because there are none. These bikes were just used for testing purposes and really never meant for retail sale. So the way this bike was purchased is just the way it is. If something unique is missing, it's just missing and must be replaced by a standard production item. And most of the known pre-production bikes had matching frames and engines.

yeah probably next to impossible find spares for a sandcast but if anyone would have any I would try Bert first... might be easier finding a complete sandcast than sandcast spares...
