Hey guys and girls,

I'm a new member of the CBX owners clan. I just bought a 1982 CBX Protek. I don't have it yet but I'm getting excited. It's being shipped to a restoration group here in Texas and they are going to get it going for me. It's not been run for ten years but is clean and has been carefully stored so I'm not anticipating any problems. It was running great the last time it was run.

I'm just getting back to riding. I owned a 1978 Kawasaki 1000 LTD back in 1978 and rode it for nearly ten years. I recently got a yearning for another one and found one this past summer so now, I am back in the swing of it.

I've never owned a Honda and only got to looking at the CBX when I started looking into getting a Kawasaki 1300, also a six cylinder. Once I started looking at the CBX, I became sold and know now I missed out on something special way back when.

I've just joined the CBX owners club and am looking forward to reading up more on this bike and interacting with other owners and CBX fans.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still a great fan of my KZ. It's a beauty and runs like a dream. It'll be an interesting comparison owning it and a CBX

You will have to post a pic or 2 of your Prolink when you get it back from the shop.
If the quick resto goes well the name of the shop would be appreciated. Not many places left that work on these bikes.

The place I'm shipping it to is in Lewisville, Texas. It's called VJ Moto. I had gotten a 1978 KZ 1000 and a fairing. They had it all painted to an original red, fairing and bike, and mounted it for me. I really don't know if they have ever restored a CBX but on their web site you can see some of their work. They got my KZ looking very nice.

The main thing I'm going to have them do is get this thing running for now, service the brakes and put on some tires. We will see how that goes, but check out their website.

If they are not intimately familiar with the CBX, they should not be permitted to work on it.
The CBX is a stand alone motorcycle and not like any other in far too many ways.

Agree with Phil. 'Getting it running' means carb work and there's where they'll hit a wall if they have not successfully done lots of them. Proceed very carefully.

I have been familiar with the work of Joe Whalen the owner of the shop for at least a decade from the GSResources site.
Personally, would have no problem sending a CBX to his shop.

but people lie about what they can do and are happy up take your money, and how are you to know? I learned the hard way.

I did find a honda dealer that was honest and turned my work away saying they had no one qualified to work on my cbx. that was refreshing honesty.

Experienced local bikers directed me toward qualified mechcnics.
