New CBX owner, NE Ohio
Hello everyone, I'm Alex and I recently picked up a 1980 CBX. I've been doing the whole car thing for awhile now, and finally bit the bullet on picking up a bike. She's currently sitting at 14k mikes (I've ridden it about 600 over my last 3 weeks of ownership). The paint isn't original, but overall the bike seems to be in very nice, mostly original condition.
I've been wanting a CBX for years, and thought I'd sign up after finally purchasing one. I look forward to learning more about my bike, and meeting other CBX owners around the area!

I apologize for the double post, it's been awhile since I've used online forums. Cheers!

Hi ya, nizzan.
Quite a few CBX owners in your area.
Quite a contrast in rides but both would be fun to ride and make great sounds.
I like the paint on that Monster.

Re: New CBX owner, NE Ohio
Thank you all for the warm welcome! I'm nowhere near as knowledgeable with bikes as I am with cars, so I'm glad there's some local owners and a good fourm presence!
The ducati is my best friend's 1100 evo tricolore, I believe one of less than 100 in the states. But his Pantah 500sl is what really made me pull the trigger on a CBX!

Re: New CBX owner, NE Ohio
It was good to meet you and your friend with the Ducati at Bair's Bike night last night, Alex!
You got yourself a good deal there. A really solid bike. One of the few Japan-built 1980s.
Great to see someone who is 25 years old so passionate about the CBX. Looks like the bike will not lose its appeal in years to come, when we old men are no longer riding.
I blame myself for not bringing one of my CBXes, between you, Greg and me we could have had a nice showing. It is not that often that you see three CBXes show up at a non-CBX related bike meeting.

It was nice meeting you Thursday. You, Mike, and me will need to see if we can coordinate day where we can meet at another event like Thursday's. It would be really cool to have 3 CBX's one of these events.
Take care and don't hesitate to contact us with any questions,
Greg

It was wonderful meeting you both as well! Thank you both for your hospitality and knowledge, people like you guys allow younger generations keep these vintage bikes on the road. I'd love to coordinate another event and get all three cbxes together!
On another note, I just got done spending a few hours removing the oxidation/polishing up some of the engine covers. A little elbow grease goes a long way!

Re: New CBX owner, NE Ohio
Come to think of it, I do have a question to ask!
How would I go about shining up the factory exhaust? There are a few deep scratches that I won't be able to remove, but all the little hairline scratches/ swirls are what bothers me. Do these exhausts have some sort of clear coating on them, or just bare metal?

Glad you hooked up with some great CBXers. They'll help you out a lot. You can use 0000 steel wool and green-tub rubbing compound without scratching the exhaust. It will clean up the best with that. Do not use coarser wool or rubbing compound. Bike is looking good!

Thanks Dave! Mike told me your the carb guru, so I'm sure I'll have questions for the day I decide on a new exhaust!daves79x wrote:Glad you hooked up with some great CBXers.
