New member Southampton, UK
Hi Everyone. Quick introduction as I picked up my new 1979 CBX from Heathrow airport yesterday. It came to me from Toronto using the excellent Air Canada "Fly your bike" service and also turned out cheaper than shipping in a container. I now have several weeks of paperwork, nausea etc getting the bike road legal in the UK. The bike is a silver one, very original, 15,000 miles, in great condition. It is Canadian spec but with the sportkit so low bars and rearset footrests. I have some photos and will post them in the next couple of days when I get a minute.
My other bikes are 2 CB900f, a CB1100f and a couple of CX500s
One quick question: I'd like to get a specialist to look over the bike before riding properly, can anyone recommend one in the south of England?
Many thanks
Jonathan

Welcome to the site, Jonathon.
Just curious as the difference in method and cost of your shipping option? Is it strapped to a pallet or something?

Re: New member Southampton, UK
Thanks for the welcome.
The AC 'fly your bike' scheme runs every summer and is basically to allow riders to take their bikes touring in other parts of the world. The best deals are if you have a ticket on AC and go with the bike and have a return ticket. It cost me CAN$1360 to get the bike from Toronto to London. You need a helpful seller, the guy I bought from was exactly that and a nice chap too(thanks Jerry!). I imagine the service is available everywhere AC fly. I believe it is strapped to a pallet but AC deal with that. There's quite a lot of info on their website.
Paul, thanks for the intro, do you know a south of England specialist? Have you had any work done? I need valve clearances checked and cam chains adjusted plus some other non-specialist stuff like tyres, chain, battery. I'm pretty sure the valves are good but would rather be sure!
Cheers Jonathan
Ps I have tried uploading images and have done it all as instructed without success. I'm using an iPad so I suspect it may be due to the annoying black magic in these things! Will try later from a desktop

send a PM to cbxmel I don't know how close he is to you but if he's not nearby I'm sure he'll know someone who is.

once photos are loaded to a file, they need to be retrieved from your personal control panel via this forum...it'll ask you to browse your PC files to select a photo...if the file is too big it won't accept it so you'll need to reduce the size...
click on following
1- your name
2-user control panel
3-gallery
4-manage personal album
5-upload image
6-browse
that gets your photo from your PC file to the your forum account, if it's not too large...after that you only need to select a pic from your forum account to insert to your post

Thanks Wyly. I got stuck before I got that far! I reduced the size of my photo using an online service to 1000x750. I then opened the galleries and followed the instructions but each time it said file too big. I suspect it's the old apple control thing, it probably assumes I want the bigger copy even though I select the smaller one, apple knows best! I'll try again when next on a windows machine and see how I get on.
I sent CBX Mel an email via the VJMC site, will wait to hear back

it's file size that'll trip you up 99% of the time...I reduce my pictures when I send them from my phone (Sony)or tablet(Samsung) when requested as to desired file size to be sent, that way they're already reduced to acceptable size when they're emailed to my laptop...another method is to download a free reducing file app/program to your computer.jonathan wrote:Thanks Wyly. Just use this link: http://photoposting.is-great.net/?i=2
Select your pic, drag it to the box in the above link, wait a few seconds and an address will appear in the space, copy and past. It took longer to type than it does to post pics.

Ok, here we go, finally got access to a desktop. I can't stand these bloody Apple things! Thanks for all the advice.
I hope these images work, they show the new bike in my friend's garden in Southampton. A nice sunny day for a change.
I have booked in with A&H Motorcycles for the service items mentioned above.
Will post again
cheers

Re: New member Southampton, UK
Looks like you did well! Welcome! Just a word of caution - please get references from local CBX guys before having someone unknown work on your CBX. They HAVE to have a lot of CBX-specific experience or you will not be satisfied. Lots of guys here from your neck of the woods - just hang on a bit and they'll show up. Maybe Paul has already steered you right.
