Thanks on the early model note, Dave. I wasn't certain which they had. Regarding machining the swingarm, Mike, I never looked at it. However, I would expect that the wall material on the arm might become a bit thin. Might be worth a look, though. Although, finding something on ebay, or Louis, or ?, with good/serviceable bearings may very well be the financial approach.

Looking at an 80 swing arm I have. I would be reluctant to bore it for a larger bearing unless it was going to become a garage queen.

I have a lead on bearings but once again they would have to be ground to correct size.

One of the biggest problem that I see is, there does not seem to be a standard angular contact bearing size with a 16mm ID. You get either 15 or 17mm

Stock is 16x38x12 this one is 16x38x21.

Would require a 3mm spacer.....looks like the best option I have seen.

I wonder how a radial bearing compares to an angular contact bearing. I'll have to study up on this as I have no engineering experience.

The 21 mm width is actually the width of the inner spherical race, which could be machined down to the same width as the outer race. In our application, the spherical inner is not required. Look at the dimensional sketch.

I keep looking at the drawing and I just can't see what you are referencing.

Sorry, Mike, I cannot see the drawing anymore. This bearing has a spherical inner race that swivels, which would allow an axle running through it at an angle to the outer race. That is why the inner race is wider than the outer race.
If one would grind the inner race down to the same width as the outer... that was I was thinking...

Now that makes a good picture in my head...

Interesting, I think one of us will have to try that one day as the OEM bearing availability seems to be non existent.
