I'm only using maybe 40-50 psi air pressure - not enough to blow the valves off their seats, as witnessed that only 2 intakes bubbled, but filling the chamber with fluid and watching for seepage works OK too.
As for installing new seals - find a Phillips screwdriver that will easily pass through the guide. This will be your mandrel. Then take an appropriate 1/4 drive socket and slip it on the screwdriver shaft, followed be a greased or oiled seal. The socket is just a spacer. Now insert the shaft into the valve guide and gently push and twist and the seal will pop right on. You can do them all in about 5 minutes this way. I know, a photo would be nice, but it is agony for me to what you do with the photos, Aris! Probably a poor description, but that's it.

Dave, this is as good a description as any. Makes sense to me, and I will try to get a pic when I get into it. Shouldn't be long, I hope ...

Make sure to use Viton seals. They are usually either green or light blue in color, not black. The black seals are NBR and have a tendency to harden under heat and by time.

Mike,
Awaiting for a japanese CBX pattern 'gasket set' from DSS (David Silver Spares) in the UK. Not sure which type of seals this includes.
I also have about 40 NOS HONDA seals lying around.
Do hope I do not have to have more ordered from the US ???
So, let's see what's in the DSS 'gasket set' first.
Cheers, Aris

At this advanced stage of most of our CBX ownerships, I think about any valve seals will outlive us especially all the more miles most of us put on. But I'm all for putting the best available in if all else is equal. I wouldn't discard new original Honda ones in favor of a better aftermarket variety.

Try the following; Take any part of a dismantled engine. Put it in your favorite degreaser, scrub it, what ever. Then clean it further with petrol, what ever, and then wipe it dry.
It should be clean. Right? ---- Wrong!
Hold the part with one hand and spray some brake cleaner (love the stuff!) on to it. Then observe in awe a streak(s) of fine dirt coming off and flowing down the part!!!
Oh, and while lapping the valves I could not avoid thinking that if anything, the lapping paste must be 10 times as aggressive as glass! So getting every spec out of my head is paramount!
Cheers, Aris
By now probably all of you think I am psychotic about cleanliness
And of course I am.
And I know I am boring a few of you, BUT, see below what I found yesterday:
After I finished lapping the valves, I proceeded to clean all valve seats as best I could. I then immersed the head into my spotless degreaser, giving it a good clean with various brushes and cleaning fluid under pressure.

It was then taken out and I used tap water to further clean it and get rid of any remaining residue.
This, I followed with 20 mins blowing it with compressed air which hopefully blew away whatever was left and helped dry the head.

And then, I used 1.5 cans of brake cleaner fluid, squirting in all orifices and every part of the head I could think of.
Below the head, I had a tray which collected all spilled fluid which I kept and let dry.
And THIS is what was in it !!!

Got to go, or I will miss my psychotherapy session now.

Aris:
Makes you wonder how Honda got the parts clean in the beginning!

Trust me Aris, none of us are being bored with your rebuild.
I look forward to the next daily installment.

I agree with Steve. Yours is the first post I look at every morning. At some point I will have my engine apart and this will be a great reference guide when I do so. Keep the detail and all the pictures coming.

I think there is a huge chapter here, we are missing - industrial scale ultrasonic cleaners

.
There are some very impressive uTube videos proving my point ... just search the name ... e.g.

I am planning to look into this, from an amateur's perspective, of course, and report back ...
Cheers, Aris

Mike, it would help the Greek economy no end, if with every refurbished engine returned, we could also include (same box - no extra P&P charges) a few of our criminal politicians as well.
Best, Aris

You'd just be sending them here for 'training' Aris - Consider yourself lucky . . . . at least your crooks aren't squandering young lives and national treasure starting wars all around the globe . . . . .

I'd send you my engine in a heartbeat, Aris - Even with round trip shipping and paying for all the cans of solvent you use, it would be a bargain to know EVERYTHING has been looked at
