I was wondering how the SP995 VHT paint heldup ? I was told by Louis Metrone to use SP127 and Bill @ TIMS to use said use both 127 and 995, one on the head and cylinders and the other on the cases because the 995 changes its color under high heat. Your engine looks very sanitary BTW.

I'd take Bill's advice - if anyone would know the fine points of that its him, given how many bikes he restores. Either is going to look fantastic.

Some of the 'High Temp' paint has had the discoloring problem over the years. Really a bummer when all your hard work results in a 'golden' engine instead of a silver one.
Dupli-Color rattle can paint does not do that and it's not 'high temp'. Don't need 'high temp' paint on the engine - mostly just a marketing gimmick. This has all been very well documented in several other threads here.

I have not painted a CBX engine, but I painted both a CB350F and CB750K motor with Evinrude engine silver. Another marine engine maker, OM, has an engine paint also. Rattle cans, available in marine supply stores. They are both excellent matches to the Honda engine silver and are heat stable.

In my experiences with soda blasting metal surfaces is that it won't rough-up the surface enough to create a good mechanical bond with any type coating (paint) so, one would need to go back over every nook and cranny with sandpaper (tedious). It's best to go all the way and bead blast all parts then paint for a nice end product. I'm not saying it won't look good but, the paint will not like fuel, oil, cleaner ect...

Aluminum usually prefers to be primed with an etching base coat before you paint it.

Great work, fantastic results!
I've been debating doing the same. Clean and polish vs paint (rattle can) vs ceramic coating. Ceramic coating was quoted at $800.

Wonder what the paint on that engine looks like now? Notice SDD has not been here for a long time.

An auto body supplier told me all "off the shelf" rattle cans lack the additives for a oil/gas resistant finish. They added the appropriate additives to my rattle cans but it needed to be applied asap as it has a can lifespan of less than 24hrs.

The VHT paint will hold up against gas and oil if applied properly. I have painted intake & exhaust manifolds on many cars and trucks and it held up better than I thought it would, No primer, just blasted and cleaned with grease remover.

Where can I get that? I have trouble with geese pulling up the young plants in my fields.

Rick, have you been painting the tractor again?

Well, I see "geese" has been editted to "grease". That's okay, I had a bit of fun.
No painting tractors this winter, but I usually use a pressure washer to remove geese.
