Hello from Montreal

Post by shrap66 »

Hi my name is Luc and I am proud to say I finally own a 1982 CBX !

My first motorcycle was a Honda CM400T I purchased new in 1982 when I was about to turn 16. That bike gave me freedom and I have nothing but good memories but the fact I am 6 foot 3 and 225 pounds and the 400 looked kinda small under me.

The bikes I really aspired to were the Katana GSX1100S, KZ1000 or the CBX in no particular order. I stopped riding at around 24, got a job, married, kids etc.

Fast forward to 2013, my kids being raised and after binge watching Son's of Anarchy, I bought a 2010 Road Glide which I still own. Did a lot of long trips with the wife. Great bike to travel.

A couple of years ago I bought a second bike a 1979 KZ1000 Ltd basket case. I learned how to fix a clutch, rebuild calipers, change valve seals, adjust shims, change piston rings, etc etc.. It looks and runs great now. Thinking about putting a La Parisienne fairing so it looks like a MFP mad max replica.

Finally last week I bought a running 1982 CBX Prolink. It has all of its parts and was repainted arctic white. The speedo and tach are faulty and missing their needles. It has Gold boomerangs from a Honda CB1100F and a D&G 6 into 1. My first ride I did about 140km when I hit the reserve :laughing-rolling: . I think its running rich :D

So going through all the basis maintenance stuff first. It needs new tyres. I will repaint. I prefer the 1981 Grey but love the CB900F color scheme with the orange stripes (would look way cool with the gold wheels) I sourced a replacement cluster. The D&G look cool but the bike is very sluggish at lower RPM's so will probably go with OEM Sankei or replicas. (the bike came with the original SAnkei but one side is really rusted)

A lot of good info on this site so looking forward to share with you guys.

Welcome. That bike looks great as is. I say leave the paint alone and buy another one in grey. I'm sure your wife will approve.

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.

Welcome to the site, Luc. Great intro.

There is a fellow in Quebec with a large cache of CBX parts, by the name of Ron Marshall. I will send you a private message with his email address. I have worked with him several times, he is a very hardworking seller of CBX parts and aims to please.

Hi Just wanted to post an updated pic. Worked on the bike for a while. The Front end has now a fresh CB1100F Trak fork system. I took out the wheels to clean them up. Kerker pipes. New Bigcrank battery. Fresh paint job and installed the front fairing. New windshield. Fresh seat cover.

Took her out for the first time on Friday. Found the front suspension too soft so I tightened the adjusting nuts a bit more and added 50cc of Honda Fork oil in each of the forks and I set the Trak system from 2 to 3 and now its perfect.

Yes I know my front fender is too high, its coming off this week to finish paint and stripe. :D

Next I am doing the LED conversion as I can see my voltmeter dipping when the flashers are on.

Also will be finalizing the install of the optional gauges, got the clock working and will be trying to put another one. I already have a oil pressure gauge but I think I would like the original temperature to make it complete.

Real happy so far. :laughing-rollingyellow:

Looking good!!!

You might want to do a voltage drop check to see where the issue is causing the drop when the flashers are on. You likely have a poor connection, bad ground, or internally corroded wire causing the issue.
