Speedometer Cable Screw

Post by JWD »

Is the 42 year old screw that secures the speedometer cable to the drive gear on the front wheel l/h thread? Mine is pretty well buggered and before I start drilling I'd like to be sure I'm going the correct direction.
Thanks!

Another fastener on the CBX that guys tighten way too much. I have a nice Vessel #2 JIS impact that gets them out. The other ones that bug me are the cam end cap screws. They seal nothing, but guys think they need to be very tight. If you resort to the impact driver on these, you’ll break the cap every time. Only way to save the cap is to drill out the screws.

The good news is that the heads drill off very easily, the cap is removed, and then the stub turns out very easily, sometimes by hand.

Put the driver tip in the screw and hit it with a small hammer.

The shock of the direct impact, many times, will allow you to remove it with normal counter-clockwise rotational force.

Good advice/suggestion for many 'stuck' screws and bolts.

Another tip, for removing screws that you suspect had a locking compound used when installed is to get your soldering iron hot and touch it to the head of the screw long enough to melt the compound, making removal a snap (no pun intended)
