New guy- Anchorage, Alaska -81 CBX

Post by crankwalk »

New guy in Anchorage with an 81 CBX. 3700 miles and needs a little of everything before it’s roadworthy. I’m on here to read as much as possible and maybe buy a few odds and ends this bike needs.I have wanted one of these forever and I’m thrilled to have one in the garage now.

While I’m here I’m looking for a choke lever assembly, side covers, rear top plastic cover…and a thousand other brackets and things. If you have a scratch and dent junk pile let me know!

In addition to the CBX, I have a 73 Bonneville and and 71 Kawasaki H1 to keep me busy.

Thanks and glad to be here.

Welcome to the site, Jay.
Site member Tevan would be a good person to contact for parts.
Another source is Louis at https://www.usedcbxparts.com/

Nice to see the stock exhaust although the blueing of pipes 2 and 5 should be a concern.

Feel free to post a pic of your other bikes.

Hi Steve,

This bike hasn't been on the road in many years. I was able to get it to run on starting fluid and all six pipes were getting hot. 3 and 4 weren't as hot so I've got to look into that later down the road.

After a little cleaning the pipes looked better. A lot of it was grime and dust from sitting in a shop.

Wiring harness has seen better days but I have ordered a complete 81 harness online that should be headed my way soon. Im guessing this rubbed through from the seat moving around?

In the meantime, I'm riding these two:

Like the look of the Bonnie....and having snow covered mountains in the background ain't a bad look either.

Had a set of modified Denco chambers on a Water Buffalo decades ago.

Welcome Jay! I've had 2 1981s...great bikes. John Garasimowicz, owner of Okinawa Joe's Vintage Motorcycle Sales in Harrisonburg, VA, is a great source for '81 info and knows great parts sources. He's had an '81 forever and knows every square millimeter of those bikes. He refurbished one that I bought awhile back. He's also a long-time ICOA member.

Have fun with the new bike!
