My name is John Ford and have been a proud CBX owner and prior member (#2671) since 1991. My membership lapsed sometime around 2004 due to family and career (Navy) responsibilities. I am now retired after serving 25 years in uniform and 10 years as Navy Civil Servant. I am the proud owner of a 82 CBX and also a 79 CBX Tim Ware built that was featured in his CBX Parts catalog “2000 and Beyond”. Both bikes are low mileage, 7500 and 2000 respectively and have been covered in my garage for 10 years. I am currently tuning my 79, (brake rebuilding, carb cleaning, etc.) and plan to have it on the road around Memorial Day pending any distractions.
My 82X was stolen in 1992 and subsequently involved in a police chase. The thief apparently was not an experienced rider, laid the bike over in a turn and the bike slid into a tree. The impact at bike center bent the frame, shock linkage, centerstand, rear wheel, left handlebar and cracked the swingarm. This occurred on a Friday night and I could not retrieve it from impound until Monday morning. Needless to say, I did not know what to expect and had to anxiously wait two days before I could retrieve it. I was heartbroken when I saw it lying on its side at the impound lot. I immediately contacted Clint Hooper (CBX Director in 91) and told him what happened and offered to part the bike out. Clint convinced me against parting the bike and told me to send a list of parts I needed to restore my bike. He quickly and cheaply found me almost all of the parts I needed except the exhaust, which was upgraded with a new Supertrapp exhaust system. I worked on the bike over the winter and had it back on the road in the spring of 93.
I still have all of my old copies of the CBX Press to peruse for technical guidance and look forward to reading current expert tips and online sharing in the CBX Club. Thank you, Larry Zimmer for keeping the site and association alive.

Welcome back John! Could we possibly have met at a rally in Virginia way back when? Seems I remember a story like yours with the '82.

Re: Greetings from Portsmouth, Virginia
Good morning Dave,
Unfortunately I never made a rally as my Navy career frequently kept me away from home. Upon my return I always gave my free time and attention to my wife and two boys and of course the house, making home repairs/improvements.
. That phase (career, raising kids) of my life has ended and I now have time to attend future events and rally's.

Good morning Steve,
I read that post last night and attempted both methods using my laptop computer with no success. Seems my profile requires permission to attach photos. Sincerely, John
