82 Prolink Rear Shock
My stock rear shock has developed a slow leak, not sure where it is leaking, but over a few days the air pressure is below minimum from start pressure of 60psi.
I have read a lot of the rear shock threads on this site and am ready to replace the rear shock. I may rebuild the old one, but just to keep it as stock item.
I see that the IKON 3610-1107 and the Progressive 465-1115B are the recommended rear shocks.
Apparently there are neither of these in stock anywhere and will require a significant lead time to manufacture and deliver.
Anyone out there having tried both the IKON and Progressive brands, and why do you prefer one over the other?
Are there any other rear shock recommendations of good quality.
Thanks for the input as always.

Re: 82 Prolink Rear Shock
I had the Progressive units on all my stock ProLinks with excellent results but that was before the Ikon model was available.
Mike Nixon is reproducing the necessary seal for the stock unit that was NLA from Honda for many years. (if you want to go that way).

Re: 82 Prolink Rear Shock
I have experience with both shocks. Either will be a dramatic improvement. The Progressive is generally a little less money, I think the Ikon is the better overall shock. Since Restocycle is no longer in business, not sure who is a dealer. Nils may chime in on that.

Re: 82 Prolink Rear Shock
Thanks for the feedback, I have been in touch with sales at IKON USA, and delivery would be August sometime.
Haven't got feedback from Progressive yet.
But have contacted Mike Nixon for the seal for the stock shock, may rebuild this one until I get delivery of either the Progressive or IKON.

Re: 82 Prolink Rear Shock
Don't get too excited about rebuilding your stock shock. It's a terribly messy job, but the worst part, and Mike will tell you this, is getting the old damper oil completely out of the shock. It can take days and even then you aren't sure you got it all. That plays a big part in how much new oil goes in. IMHO, not nearly worth the effort.

The one selling for $525 must be a mistake by the seller at that price. I'd be jumping on that if I needed one.Larry Zimmer wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 11:00 amGive this a look: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R ... 5&_sacat=0
The CBX I'm building utilizes a similar setup from Ducati. Here's an older photo:

Re: 82 Prolink Rear Shock
Progressive offers remote preload adjustment on some of the 465 and the Ikon does not. That is a really welcome feature on a monoshock IMO.
Tony, I just checked and we do NOT have any more of the Ikon, just used the last one on our last Prolink project. Grab this Progressive.
Best,
Nils

Re: 82 Prolink Rear Shock
Hi All, thanks for the tips.
I checked out the link above for the progressive shocks, but none are a fitment match for the 82 CBX.
Did see some of the remote preload shocks, but again no match for the 82.
Is there something I missed on the site that would work?
Just heard back from Progressive, that they are still months out from making shocks for 81/82 CBX.
So either I get one that might be hanging around in stock somewhere or I'll have to wait until new ones come along.

The Progressive shock is 465-1115B. Their website currently shows shipping end of June.

Re: 82 Prolink Rear Shock
Guys, going to throw this out here.
My 82 Pro-Link is asking me to put a new rear shock in.
Does anyone have a either a spare new IKON or a new Progressive 465-1115 standard length shock that you perhaps purchased and are not going to install it.
I know its a flyer, but thought I would try anyway.
Looks like the lead time is basically end of season, which is much too late for me.

Re: 82 Prolink Rear Shock
So, I disassembled the back end yesterday and removed the stock shock.
Heading out to garage to remove the swingarm and start inspecting the linkages.
Any other recommendations while I got it apart.
Great big thanks to Nils for quickly sending out the IKON. Got it a few days ago.
