Denso alternator
I think i cuased it to fail by cranking too long with a weak battery or at least it happened right after i replaced the battery i got a spark when touched the negative post.
I understand it is cheaper to buy another complete off Ebay. So i figured i would try my hand at diagnosis. I belive the regulator to be at fault. Found RMSTATOR from Coaticook Canada that manufacturers a updated regulator, 79.00 shipped no tax. I have my fingers crossed.

Re: Denso alternator
Good luck. Would like to know how the regular performs. I just kept a spare denso for times like these :)

Re: Denso alternator
RM 31000 is the part #. They are the manufacturer. Spoke with them asking every question I could think of. He said they have <2 o/o returns.
I have two of these alternators one on a 79 and the other on a 82. I got my Fluke out and checked against each other and made some notes. Way off between known good regulator readings.
Hope I do nail it. Best i saw was 95 on Ebay rest were 125, 150.
I do have a question. If you want to pull the alternator can you just pull the alt or do you need to pull plate and all?

Re: Denso alternator
You can leave the adapter plate attached to the motor. The only risk is if the drive coupler stays on the primary shaft, is that the rubber cushions may fall into the motor and aligning the alternator to the coupler upon installation.

Re: Denso alternator
I don't think the Denso alternators are all that expensive. I bought several of them between $45.- and $65.-/pc

Re: Denso alternator
I got juice. The regulator arrived on the third day. It didnt take long to get it mounted in and tucked away. Fired the bike up and was relieved to see the volts jump up to 14.42. Getting ready to take her out for a road test.
