Camshaft "Oil Guides"

Hi,

In the outer end of the camshafts, there are supposed to be some rubber inserts (91203-422-005 "Guide, oil").

Working on two CBXs, and both engines have these missing. Is it OK to leave as is, or do I need to replace them?

What do these thing do? I assume they limit the flow of oil in / out of the camshaft?

The camshafts need the oil restrictors in them for proper
pressure to lube the plain bearing surfaces in the head and caps
So yes, replace or make as needed. The hole is 7.5mm.

I recently pulled apart two engines that haven't been running in some time, both did not have the 'oil guides' in the end of the camshafts that the parts manual shows. I can understand what their purpose is but they seem to be unavailable as a part. What have other come up with as a substitution? Or, is it not worth the effort?

My mistake, the guides are in each crankshaft, I assumed that the hole diameter would be smaller and figured they weren't there. My newbie'ness with the CBX is evident...

Don’t push those in any deeper than the edge of that chamfer at the end of the camshaft. We had a bike come in with one pushed in further and it blocked the oiling passage to that cam cap. That cam cap was chocolate brown from overheated oil and the bearing surface was destroyed. The head bearing surface was fine and the cam itself had light scoring we were able to polish. We dug up a replacement, bolted it up and measured it with plastiguage and it was fine. So yes you need them, but only push then in as little as you need to to get them fully seated.
