New to CBX

Post by Dudney »

Hi, just bought my first CBX i have owned a lot of bikes over the years but never a 6 cylinder. Bike hasn't run in 8 years but was "stored" without a battery, stabil in the gas and covered. not sure if the carbs were drained or not. I have rebuilt a set of GL1000 carbs before using video and parts from Randakk. How different would these carbs be?

:text-welcomewave: I've never worked on a Gl carbs so I can't answer that but in the opinion of my mechanic who wrenched on the MotoGP circuit CBX carbs are at the highest level of difficulty and not only that they're a pain in the ass to access... but once they're cleaned, adjusted and maintained they're just so so sweet... 8 years without being run, I'd prefer it was run dry and drained rather than stabil but maybe you'll be lucky or get away with adding carb cleaner to a tank full of fuel...if not you'll be tilting the engine and pulling the carbs for at least a good cleaning...
CBX a work in progress, still improving...GS1150EFE completed and awaiting modifications.....RD350, remnants in boxes scattered throughout the garage

Welcome! Just got home from Nashville. Could have brought your carbs home! Seriously, you'll be chasing all manner of problems if you don't remove and completely rebuild the carbs. And yes, they are infinitely more difficult than GL carbs to get right. If you do it yourself, plan on 2 or 3 removals to get them close to right. Seriously. But holler if you need anything.

Dave,
thanks for the offer. I did get the bike running saturday but not well. right now i'm seriously considering removing them and shipping them off to one of the "experts" for a full rebuild, and restoration. like you said i could probably get them right after 2 or 3 tries. just don't think i'm up for that.

Bill -- I, too, will be at Barber. phone, there, is 810.355.6179. Call when you are on the grounds. We can meet. You would be most welcome to dinner(s) with some of us. I'll be arriving Thursday late afternoon. Leave a message if I don't answer. I'll get back to you. (I don't always hear the phone ringing.)
