quieter
i have a 6 in 1 dg on my 82 and it's too damn loud (and yes i'm too damn old) how do i get this thing quieter i know i can drill out the rivets and take the cone out but with what and how would i repack it

2000 dollars for stock this bike came with it so tht'a all i have to work with runs great just too loud

You can drill out the three pop rivets that DG uses. Then you can remove the black end cone and the baffle. It is sometimes difficult to remove the baffle. If that is the case, I recommend pulling the megaphone unit as a whole and use a long rod to push the baffle out the rear. You can repack the baffle by wrapping it with fiberglass and hold it in place with copper wire. Reassemble with pop rivets or in my case, sheet metal screws.

thanks phil, does it make a big difference or just slighly quieter, mine is pretty loud so i don't think it has any packing left

Dan,
The tighter you wrap it and the more glass you use, the quieter it will be. If you really do want it quieter, be sure to pack the entire length of the baffle and have the outside diameter of the packing touching the wall of the megaphone.
