Of late when doing a cold start, the engine sometimes blows blue smoke from the right exhaust (80 SS stock twin exhaust). This clears in a few moments of running. Sometimes, it does not smoke at all on cold starts. Never smokes on a hot start. Can't detect any oil usage on the dipstick. Both hot and cold starts are instant and it runs well. Is this something horrible or best just left alone?
Considering selling the machine but the smoking may be an issue for buyers.

Re: Smoke on starting
Symptoms are that of a small, slow oil leak into the combustion chamber when bike is parked. Most likely through the valve stem seals.
Not a terrible thing, but something that comes with age and is part of a proper engine overhaul.

Re: Smoke on starting
My bike does the same, also uses less quantity than I can measure. Has done so for 8 years. 155 PSI Compression.
My advice is for you to enjoy your excellent motorcycle.

Thanks Nils. That was pretty much my fallback plan. May go to conventional 20W50 with a shot of Lucas stabilizer on next service. Running Synthetic in it now. The smoke is just an aggravation.
