DENCO 6-6 ... ?
Hi Guys,
Do any of you know anything about the Denco 6-6 system for a CBX, I think they were made in the late-1980s in USA or Canada.
I purchased a supposedly good but used set from a fella 15+ years ago (sight unseen!) and had them sent to my storage in California. It wasn't until mid-March this year that I uncovered them again in my N.Ireland store and took them to be put on one of my Bikes. It seems like the Seller didn't send me all the parts ... is there supposed to be a collector box or something between the 6 down-pipes and the 6 exhaust-cans?
When I line it up on the Bike it is just way too short!?!
Best, IAN

Re: DENCO 6-6 ... ?
Hi Ian,
The exhaust you seem to have was produced by RPO. According to the magazine "Cycle Guides Custom Riders" May 1980 issue Denco and Honda got together and formed this company in early 1979. Denco was located at 4543 Enterprise Freemont, CA 94538. The phone number listed is 415 656-0424. RPO was located at 4541 Enterprise Freemont, CA 94538. Their phone number was 415 656-0425.
There is a very small photo in the magazine of a CBX with a set of these exhaust on it. It looks like from the photo you have all the pieces, but it is very hard to tell. In the photo it looks like the two megaphones with the mounting brackets go on the bottom, on either side of the bike, and the others sit on top. I don't see anything that looks like a collector. It looks like each pipe fits into a megaphone. It also says in the article these pipes are for competiton only so maybe there is some fitting involved in installing them.
Hope that helps.
Also, congrats on the new book! It is a true work of art.
Greg

Re: DENCO 6-6 ... ?
I believe, there are 6 short pipe pieces missing. Each one connects a header to a muffler and provides the different angle between lowest and upper pipes. It is not a collector, like for the Pipemasters, but six individual tubes.

Re: DENCO 6-6 ... ?
There is no collector box just the head pipe and the muffler.
Ian, it looks like the previous owner has cut off about 6" of the tail end of the head pipe. It includes the upsweep and slight flare that would seperate the mufflers.
This is a poor picture of the set that i had.
I will search for a couple other pics.

Re: DENCO 6-6 ... ?
@ Greg,
Interesting information ... though my system does have 'DENCO' stamp on my mufflers. I wonder were these pipes you have info on, stamped DENCO or RPO? Is it possible to send me a scan of that photo (ian@netvigator.com)? I can then send it to my Mechanic.
PS. Happy you are enjoying "CBX Book II".
@ EMS,
If that is the case, maybe I need to fabricate 6-connection pipes!?
@ Steve,
Thanks mate. I will look for any signs of the 6 pipes being cut ... it didn't look obvious though when we unpacked them. That would be difficult to re-fabricate!?
Best, IAN

Re: DENCO 6-6 ... ?
What Steve says makes perfect sense. That's why I though there were pieces missing.
I was looking for some good pictures of Dencos installed, but I could not find any. The ones I have, it looks like there is an angled piece of pipe between the header and the muffler.
The headers you have, Ian, look almost identical to each other and it would be difficult to connect them to the staggered mufflers without getting the angle for the upsweep.

Sweepings started out life with Denco's.

Re: DENCO 6-6 ... ?
Hi Jan / Steve,
Thanks for the additional photos. I think the conclusion is that some 'ejit' has cut 6" off the end of my down-pipes at some point. I think I now have a very nice 6-6 wall feature for the wee "CBX Museum" ... !!!
Best, IAN

Re: DENCO 6-6 ... ?
Ian: I had a '79 with Dencos and pulled them off and on several times. I can confirm yours were cut short. They should have an extra few inches with another bend toward the tail end. Maybe you can find someone WITH a set, and someone to fabricate the downtubes. The SOUND they produce is like a Ferrari V-12... Sadly, MY CBX (CB1-2004854) is now in Bombay, India. sold it off several yearas ago with both the original exhausts and the Dencos.

Re: DENCO 6-6 ... ?
I have posted this before but still a fun clip.
An old video from CBXtacy with some great music from a set of Denco pipes.
I hope George is still riding.
